• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

3DS Max Normals in MCX are pointing to wrong direction

Thank you both! Your hints helped to (I do hope finally) fix the issue. At least in MCX the faces are now shown correctly.

3DS Max Normals in MCX are pointing to wrong direction

Thank you Anthony! I guess this does the trick - at least in in the most important issue. I checked whether the objects are showing negative scaling values - in fact the x/y/z values were negative (-104 each). I have no clue where this came from because I upscaled by roundabout 4% (I would have...

3DS Max Normals in MCX are pointing to wrong direction

Thank you Tom for your response! Yes, I did a lot of mirroring by using the mirroring command via the tools-menue. Is there any way to revert the mirroring or do I have to do the entire construction work again?

3DS Max Normals in MCX are pointing to wrong direction

Dear all, I've been back here on the forum for ages, but the new Flight Simulator from Microsoft has motivated me again to create something new for MSFS. I do hope that you all are well. Anyway, it's amazing what you can forget in a few months. And that's why my problem can probably be solved...

Wet Runways and Aprons in P3D

Thank you Roby, this is helpful! I am pretty sure that my layer beneath the reflective layer has no alpha channel. I will check this. For the rest of your proposed workflow I can confirm that I did it exactly like you are describing it. :stirthepo

Wet Runways and Aprons in P3D

ehm, but this is exactly what the SDK says: the negative z-bias values are working for the sorting order and they are also visible in the layer overview when I use the ground polygon wizard (if the imported model was saved as "p3d-model"). I tried this approach and at least the sorting order...

Wet Runways and Aprons in P3D

Sorry, I do not get your point. Maybe I am totally confused now. o_O The Top-Layer in my understanding is the material which I want to make reflective (and it is reflective also in P3D). In the screenshot is has the lowest zbias value and hence is drawn with the highest priority. For the...

Wet Runways and Aprons in P3D

Hi Roby, Hm, let me explain what I did: I was modelling the different "layers" with GMAX and applied the FSX-materials (edit: the materials as described both in the FSX and the P3D SDK - anyway I am trying to develop for P3D 3.3.5). One of these layers shall contain the precipitation effects...

Wet Runways and Aprons in P3D

I was thinking that when I tick the standard environment texture this will be used. However I will give it a try.

Wet Runways and Aprons in P3D

Thank you for the quick response. Here is the rest of the material setting (copied from MCX):

Wet Runways and Aprons in P3D

Hi all, I am having a question about the "wet surfaces". Never tried it before so the question might be kind of very generic. And as far as I see it is also valid for FSX. I made a material according to the SDK and applied it to the ground polygons and it works fine so far. The only problem...

P3D v3 Flickering with ground poly

This apparently was nonsense. So please disregard this post. I am testing with the human avatar usually and this "vehicle" causes problems - with the standard airplanes I see no flickering if I am using the techniques described in several posts. But anyway this is weird.

P3D v3 Flickering with ground poly

I noticed something when fighting with the flickering effects in my current project: it seems to have a positive effect to disable the command "Project flat polygons on ground using normal tolerance" (or propably to change the values in the box). Would be great if somebody could also check this way!

FSX GMAX Material Editor not available after Windows 10 upgrade

Eventually I had to do a reinstall from scratch. It was not only GMAX which did not work: other devices like my mobile modem were not recognized unter Windows 10 (no driver update available yet). The advantage is that now my system is clean again. Thank you guys for your hints anyway!
