• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Strange rendition of prop.

I just noticed that when using external view of one of my prop aircraft parts of the propeller are obscured by clouds and even trees when near ground level as if those scenery objects are between the propeller and the viewpoint.
It look really odd and I can live with it but would like to know what causes this.
Here is a screenshot to illustrate what I mean (note the cloud obscuring part of the propeller.

Your model isn't fsx-native (MDLXMDLH). This problem you can find with FS9 (MDL8MDLH) models in FSX.

Thanks Flatterman
I was confident that there would be a reason.
I thought that the model I downloaded (Premiere Aircraft) was FSX but maybe I downloaded the FS2004 version (mentioned in the docs).
I went back to the Premier Aircraft web site and downloaded 4 separate aircraft (of the same type but different textures and 2 float and 2 amphibian) for this aircraft all were described as 'complete package for FSX'. They all had the same 'problem'.
Maybe they are converted FS9 aircraft.
Could it also be that (according to the docs) "None of our models are compatible with DX10". I have DX11 installed.

Hi John, there is a difference between FSX-native and FSX-compatible. Often payware (and freeware) distributers say "FSX-Model" and not allways this is true. BTW you can easily proof the model. Open the mdl-file of an aircraft with editor. You will see a lot of hieroglyphs but on the begin you can see the type of the model ( MDLXMDLH or MDL8MDLH or other). The answer about DX11 I can't give because I only use DX9;)

Hi,
In my experience Premier aircraft didn't use FSX models. When something was described as "FSX package" it was not backwards compatible for other reasons, e.g. special gauges or the dds textures.

Thanks Christian and Dave,

Dave I clicked on your 'signature' and was impressed. Do you spend much time creating scenery objects?

I can live with this (as I don't use external view very often) but just wanted to find out why. I guess there are possibly other visual differences between FS9 and FSX aircraft.

Strangely I found another model (DHC3) recently which does not creep forward when engine (turbo prop) is idling which I now use. I had posted a separate thread sometime ago asking why the 'creep' and received a few replies none of which stopped it other than manually feathering the prop after entering a 'session' and then have to manually change the pitch before taxi/takeoff.
I had found and downloaded a few different aircraft (same type and supposedly from the same author but different textures and all looked the same outside and inside) and one doesn't creep so I use those aircraft and air files and add the textures from the other ones. The one which doesn't creep starts up with the prop pitched correctly and seemingly idling at the same speed so the differences are somewhere in the aircraft.cfg or air files. I really don't care as I now have 'solved' that problem (aircraft creeping forward at (session) startup.
There is so much to learn how all these things work and so little time to learn :)

This is the reason I registered for this site. I spent 10 hours trying to fix a horrible problem with the sound of a Premier Dash-8 (ghastly phasing from calling duplicate sound files in the cfg) only to find out later that there is a catastrophic problem with the rendering of the spinning props against certain other textures or objects, which... apparently... can't be fixed because the model is FS9... I can't believe this problem is actually happening. I can't live with it because it completely ruins the experience when viewing the plane externally. Native FSX models for me from now on. Thanks, Flatterman for the model file info tip. Will save me some time sorting through the non-functional models looking for a solution. Found one being developed by a user on this site which I await with great hopes!
