Hi,
My HDD in my development machine decided two days ago it was going to fail. I have a backup of my scenery, but unfortunately it is 3 days too old. I had done quite a bit of work on one of my models particularly, but hadn't had the chance to back it up before another app crashed the comp requiring a reboot.......ever since it hasn't worked! I was wondering if it is possible to extract the data out of the .bgl files so I at least know the dimensions of the building; I don't have a problem re-creating it, but I can't re-create it the wayy I had done before due to the way I was working. I don't have any scaled plans of the buildings I was working on, so did it by judgement etc.. in the sim. I'm not too worried about other building (11 others in total) that whilst I had spent several hours on, were not as complex. The biggest issue with this one is the intricacy of some of the detailing, of which I wouldn't be able to replicate to a degree I would ever be happy with. If it can't be done, then I'll resign myself to starting from scratch, but if I could so much as just salvage that info that would be better than nothing. Thanks in advance. Best regards, Robin. |

if i remember i think their is a program called bgl analyze which breaks down bgl files. try a search on avsim and might find it there.

You should get in contact with friends of yours. I have many things backed up on my PC for my friend. His work is password protected, all I do is provide space for his RAR files, he has some of my work too also password protected. A fair trade and could save us grief should disaster strike.

Hi Robin,
I think BGLXML is the best option, that can create your MDL files again from a BGL file. With my MDL Tweaker II tool you should be able to get some information about the object (although I am not sure if I put back the bounding box information to the last alpha already). The last alpha version can also read your objects directly from the BGL file btw.

Hi everyone,
That is great! If I can just get the dimensions of the parts that would be sufficient!! I'll check those tools out and report back! THANKS!! @faosfx: Good idea, but I have more PCs than I know what to do with. I went to backup one boot too late. Best regards, Robin. Last edited by VulcanB2; 21 Jan 2006 at 11:46. |
