FSX and FS2004

Hi, All

There is a scenery anomaly in Tanzania, coordinates

-6.74, +34.05

It is a V-shaped trench, and it appears in both FS2004 and FSX.

I haven't done anything in the FS2004 yet, but when I tried flattening in FSX it worked, except that there is what looks like a road at the bottom of the V that maintains a much narrow V groove with the road at the bottom.

I said it looks like a road because I couldn't remove it with SBuilderX 313, using the Exclude-all-roads polygon. A couple of other transverse roads in the area did go away with my exclude, meaning the exclude seems to be working.

So, does anyone know what is at the bottom of that V-shaped canyon?

Thanks

Fern

Hi,

Are you sure it is not a stream? These sometimes also influence the elevation.

There is a huge "V-shaped "anomaly in 0704\Scenery\cvx5734.bgl. It is a long thin airport background polygon:

You should be able to remove it with an exclusion polygon.

Edit. It also extends into cvx5733.bgl

Lake Sulunga is also missing in FSX.

This is the north-eastern end of the flatten. Talk about a rift valley

V Valley in Tanzania

Hi, Arno and G H D

It is not a stream. It looks like a dirt road. It it perfectly straight (each leg of the V), about 100 km long, and the road (or whatever it is) is all at the same elevation, while the ground around it is not.

The depth of the V is over 1000 metres. The elevation of the bottom is 25 metres, give or take, and the savana varies a bit between 1400 metres and 1200.

It could be an airport background, like GHD suggests. I will try to remove it with an exclude polygon.

Since entering this thread here I went to FS2004 and the V is there, too, but there is nothing at the bottom and it easily comes out with a few flats.

I will have a go at the airport background exclude.

(This looks like a joke from someone in the scenery development, a bit like the Kamarang spikes in FS2004)

Thanks, fellows.

It is, look at the cvx files in TmfViewer.

FSX Tanzania V-shaped trench

Hi, Arno and GHD

This WAS an airport background. I removed it with S Builder X 313 and it disappeared, taking with it the V-shaped trench.

Thanks for the tip, right on the nose. The correction worked and I'll be uploading it to Simviation.

In FS9 the trench is just a flat, and I removed it by making several flats to cover it. Because of the irregularities of the mesh, the correction isn't as nice in FS9 and it is in FSX, but it is not too bad. At least we don't have to be looking at that huge V while flying over it.

Thanks, guys.

Fern
