FSX crashes after importing a new BGL

Hello all. This is my first post here.
The problem is - FSX crashes after an attempt to import a new bgl, made in FSDS like a BGL or like a MDL and compiled with a library creator.
The steps I do to crash FSX:

1. Making a model in FSDS (or in 3dMAX) - for example just a cube.
2. Compiling a BGL in FSDS (or making an X file in 3DMax, and then --> (XtoMdl) mdl --> (bglcompile) bgl) \ making a MDL file and compiling with library creator.
3. Trying to import into FSX with wisplacer - adding an object to wisplacer, reexport all models after that, start new scenery, start FSX, connect wisplacer, add new library object (if default or 3rd party's - works fine) - FSX freezes and crashes to desktop.

What could be an origin of my problem?

Hello,

Try this without using Whisplacer.

In FSDS, export your object directly in BGL format at the place you want to place it in your scenety. Do FSX crash?

Still in FSDS, export your object in MDL format, write your data (location and MDL name) in the corresponding XML file and compile it with BGLComp. Do do FSX crash?

If you have two "no", it could be a problem with Whisplacer?

Well, the report.

I have loaded the default example file ds_pinewood. Compiled a bgl, started FSX - the model was just where it had to be. After that, started wisplacer, imported that model and tried to set it in FSX - succeeded.
Then I made a box in FSds, entered the same coordinates, applied a material, exported into bgl, refreshed FSX scenery database - no cube. Restarted FSX - still no cube. Tried to import through wisplacer - crashed. Restart. Tried to set a first (succeeded) model with a wisplacer = crash.
Noticed, that default model was designed in feet, and i have a metric system - changed, no effect.

Guys, help please. Any ideas?

report 2.

I found out that my objects do export from FSDS to FSX - to the default coords - to Seattle.

so
1. I made a cube
2. Exported to a FSX
3. Loaded seattle - cube exists where it has to be
4. loaded wisplacer and loaded that model there
5. set a model with wisplacer in seatle - success.
6. loaded MY coordinates (UKOO)
7. set a cube with a wisplacer there - OK.
8. Restarted FSX, started wisplacer, loaded my coordinates, trying to import that model - FSX freezed and crashed.

... i dunno what to do with that

Hi Alex.

I had a look at the default objects in FSDS and you are right, the few I checked do use materials and not textures, I am only guessing but I think those were for FS9 not FSX, as I understand it FSX no longer works with materials.

Sorry I don’t use whisplacer I use ADE, but there are others here that I am sure will be able to help you out.

Hi,

Using materials without textures in FSX itself is not a problem, but you have to be sure that they are proper FlightSimX materials. Unfortunately I am not a FSDS users, so I don't know how to force that these are created correctly.

I would be interested to take a look at a MDL that causes such a crash, that might reveal why maybe.

Thanks for a replys.

Farfy - does ADE work with FSX? I use wisplacer because it is easy to import objects into fsx with that. If there's another suitable soft for this goal - tell me please.

arno - it is not a problem for me to make a model in 3dMax and it is easier as for me. But i had same problem i guess.

I tried to attach some files. If i succeded - there's 4 files. named "1" - that's my test model. "2" - just a cube (not exact cube indeed -20x100x20) - that is made with a fsds and i had all my experiments with a model like this.

Hi,

I could not see anything weird on the MDL files themselves, so I placed them both in my FSX and no crashes for me. The object showed without any trouble. I have attached the XML I used.

So either the BGL you used has some trouble or is corrupt, or it is another piece of scenery that causes the crash.

thanks

so - continue:

I made my model and exported directly to FSX with my ccordinates: 46*26:34 \ 30*40:72 and ... my objects were in place they should be.
Started wisplacer, loaded new objects into it, tried to set several new: succeded. Made new model in fsds, loaded into wisplacer, tried to set object into a game --- crash.

so, the first clue: crash doesn't occur when I try to import new models, that already are in game. on the same territory (model, exists in usa, and i'm trying to import it in ukraine causing freezes and crash).

may be it happens because model isn't really exist in game until restart. but still no idea about connection between crashes and loaded territory.

Hope you understood what I ment

if i am right, then the next scheme might work fine:
1. making a model
2. adding to wisplacer
3. exporting to fsx
4. starting fsx

With ADE you can make a new project anywhere you like I am currently making a fictional airport from scratch and all is working fine.

Just reading what you have been trying, perhaps set the cords to the location in Ukraine and make a BGL with FSDS and see if it works that way.

I also loaded your MDL files into my FSX with ADE and they appear ok. No crash here either.

guys, could someone check this mdl please? It causes crashes also. I want to know - is it problem with a model or finally with wisplacer?

Alex,

I placed your model in a library created with Library Creator XML and positioned it at UKDE using ADE:

It displays in FSX (but untextured):

this means 2 things:

1. I do can make a models indeed
2. Crashes caused by wisplacer

No textures - at last moment before compiling I have removed texture to exclude possible errors caused by it.

So - the question: how did you imported it?

1. Made a new library with LibraryCreatorXML.exe
2. Imported mdl into it
3. Cimpiled bgl
4...
5... ?

and thank you

PS
Model is a test made model of this http://www.anafor.ru/forums/uploads/...1212329151.jpg

If you don't know the GUID, in LibraryCreatorXML, expand the tree, right-click on GUID and select "Copy to clipboard":

Now open a new file in Notepad and copy the following:

Code:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<!-- Created by Scenery Design Engine (SDE) on 10/03/2009 -->
<FSData
   version="9.0"
   xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance"
   xsi:noNamespaceSchemaLocation="bglcomp.xsd">

   <SceneryObject
      lat="47.8675579176399"
      lon="35.3222982492184"
      alt="0.0F"
      altitudeIsAgl="TRUE"
      pitch="0"
      bank="0"
      heading="0"
      imageComplexity="NORMAL">
      <LibraryObject
         name="{ff0a9249-3216-4d80-a9e1-7eda4d72b7e9}"
         scale="1.00"
         />
  </SceneryObject>

</FSData>
Edit for your lat/lon, name and heading then save with a memorable name such as PlaceOpera.xml. Compile with BglComp.

Copy both the library bgl and PlaceOpera.bgl to an active scenery area and you should see youor model:

Note. If the model is to be placed near an airport, you can import the library into ADE and place the model within ADE.
