Texture problem
Hello.
I have recently started doing some gmax-ing(?) for FS2004. I followed the tutorial by Bill Womack on Creating High-Detail FS ground polygons and found it to be a good challenge. Everything has worked well to the point where I have done the base texture for the runway and imported the runway to FS2004. But while in the simulator the texture does not show properly. (See image below.) Could someone please help? Last edited by Drakir91; 19 Aug 2009 at 02:21. |

Hi,
What is the format of your texture? For use in FS you can best export it as an extended BMP with ImageTool.

I choose DXT 3 in ImageTool. I believe the file ends with .DDS.

It is working now. Thank you!
I think it looks really good actually. But the is one thing that I do not really understand. Which is the best way to use alpha channel in the Material editor in Gmax? |

Hi,
For FS2004 I would not care about the alpha channel in GMax. All you need to know is that it will give transparency in FS while present. But in GMax I never work with it (it does not display the alpha channel either).

Thank you for your help. I understand now how to do.
This is the finished product. Not as good as the one in the tutorial but I am happy with it. |

Hi bilookhan!
If you are following the same tutorial as I did, you will be told to change the filename extension to .DDS in the ASM-file. Do not do this and keep the .BMP ending. Then while in ImageTool, after you have change the Image->Format to DXT 3, you should save the file as .BMP an not .DDS! I hope it helps. |
