transparency
Hi.
I am working on a scenery project. I've created this hangar below with semi transparent windows. I did this by creating a texture sheet for the widows and saved the texture as a dxt3 with an alpha channel. Looking through the hangar doors you can see the hangar doors at the other end of the hangar, but in the second screen shot the hangar doors are transparent. I'm probably not doing this right, so is there away to get the transparency in the hangar doors windows with out one side disappearing? ![]()

Hi,
It's a drawing order issue. If you use a different texture on the inside, make site the name of that texture is before the name of the outside texture (in the alphabet). Send from my phone using Tapatalk, so excuse the short sentences and possible typos

So the inside texture should be A_texture.bmp and the outside should be B_texture.bmp. This is true for FS9. Is it is the same in FSX? |

Hi,
Correct, it is the texture name. I don't think that FSX sorts the textures by name in the MDL. And for FSX you have the advancedmaterial settings for the transparency that can sort most of these issues.

Well I created the textures like you said and it all worked, untill I animated the doors and ran the model through the CAT program. Now the door that have been animated are transparent looking through the other end of the hangar.
Do I need to create a texture just for the animated doors? |

Animation makes it more tricky. Animated parts are drawn last normally. So I can imagine there are situations where that fails for the drawing order. Not much you can do I think.

You can sometimes fix that by making the hangar in 3 objects - the hangar, and the 2 sets of doors. Place them separately.
Hope this helps, |
