• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Best tools to make high definition runways & ground textures?

Hello,

I'm struggling with so many information online on how to make high definition runways.

What do you guys recommend (no matter the complexity) to use create high definition runways and the rest of the ground textures?

I'm learning about ModelConverterX but I wonder how does that help me on that sense and there's the good old iblue Yonder tutorial by Bill Womack.

I would like to assemble this kind of ground textures:

Can anyone route me to the proper tools and tutorials?

Thank you so much,.

just to get the right textures, good resolution, etc. and follow the Bill Womack tutorial, according to what effect you want to get but I think it's very obsolet, they talk about asm files, etc, you can make it with the " ground polygon wizard" from Modelconvertex. the tutorial could be updated really. but you can get the idea.
for the markings , taxilines, etc you could use the "loft" method, there is a tutorial about this too, Taxi line creation" here in Fsdeveloper http://www.fsdeveloper.com/wiki/index.php?title=Taxiline_creation_with_GMax.This is usefull if you have to tile the runway textures, (mostly of the cases).
there is a tutorial for creating runways, look for "High_res_base_and_edge". a PDF format tutorial. I think you can find this here in fsdeveloper too.
So the basic tools are any image editor (Gimp, phothsop) and Gmax or any other modelling tool for the "lofts" for exemple. and the runway and layers creation of course.
Modelconvertex what will do is to correct the curvature of the terrain effect and place the layers correctly, with the ground polygon wizard tool.
