I tried two weeks ago to install B2FSX_086 into Blender 2.78a. It installs, but it will not initialize. I’m using FSX:Steam, which is FSX Gold without a functioning SDK. The workaround is to use P3D SDK V1.4 which is the version that shipped with FSX Gold. Later versions of P3D SDK will not work with FSX. (I think B2P3D points to V2).
The default path for FSX:Steam is very different than FSX Gold. Also, the default path for P3D SDK V1.4 is also very different from FSX Gold and P3D. So B2FSX can’t find the SDK.
The path to XtoMDL.exe and modeldef.xml in P3D SDK is:
C:\Program Files (x86)\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D SDK 1.4.4747.0\Environment Kit\Modeling SDK\3DSM7\Plugins\
MCX has no difficulty with this general path to find and use BGLComp, shp2vec and XtoMDL. Neither does ADE So I’m convinced B2FSX would have no difficulty working with FSX:Steam if the path could be changed.
Apparently, the B2FSX script uses the registry entry to find the SDK. I don’t know enough about the registry or python to be rooting around in the guts of B2FSX. But it doesn’t look like a difficult mod for someone who knows.
Considering the popularity of FSX:Steam, and the fact that it is supported and updated, would there be any interest in providing this variation of B2FSX or at least posting what looks like a two line fix that users can find here?
