• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Why would joining meshes result in (Devmode) BUILD crash?

I have a model I created to add to an existing project which consists of a huge number of separate meshes in a number of collections.
When I export using the Asobo exporter and do a build there is NO problem.
If I select all the meshes in Blender and do a Join (press J) and then export and attempt to build, MSFS crashes with NO error displayed.
Is there a work around for this problem?

What is meant by a huge number of meshes? How large is it? How many tris?

Hi Doug

Maybe 100.

I have 'experimented' and found the problem ONLY occurs when I include certain meshes to join.

To start with my object consists of meshes which make up an excavator and meshes which make up a gravel carrying boat.

I have experimented and found that the problem only occurs when I include certain meshes in the Join viz the hydraulic cylinders and pistons (highlighted in the image below).
When I include them in the JOIN the crash occurs during build. If I JOIN everything EXCEPT them the crash during build does not occur.

I will not include them in the JOIN but wonder why they are causing the build to crash. Would be nice to have an error report so I could track down the problem.

Just what then is the purpose of JOINing all meshes into a single mesh?
