FS2004 PHOTOREALISTIC RAILROADS AND TRAINS VERSION 2.0

[For default users and for Ultimate Terrain USA/Canada/Europe]
__________________________________________________________________________________

UPDATES FOR VERSION 2

1.This is a stand-alone package. You dont need Version 1.
2.Fixed the confusion with trains not showing up in some default users and users of
ultimate terrain due to inaccurate naming of files.
3. Decreased the amount of trains on the tracks. There were too many trains separated by just a few hundred yards.
4. Six types of train combinations to choose from including
mixed passenger/cargo , industrial trains, old trains. Also the train engines are more clearly represented now.

I CANT EMPHASIZE ENOUGH THE IMPORTANCE OF THE NEXT STEP (backing up).....

BACKING UP YOUR TEXTURES:- (by simply renaming them to [ *BKUP.bmp ]

Open FS9/Scenery/World/Texture and rename all textures with the letters 'rail' in them to something else. So you will need to rename railroadsu.bmp (depending on if you have Ultimate Terrain or not).

In the same way, rename all files with the letters 'underR' in them. (theres one for each season; spunderR, suunderR, faunderR, wiunderR, hwunderR)

INSTALLATION:-

FS9 trains and railroads are depicted by two types of textures:-

a) The trains (and traintracks themselves) [found in my 'TRAINS' FOLDER]
b) The ground under the trains, which will vary according to season [found in my UNDERTRACKS folder]

IN MY PACKAGE: -

1.Open the [TEXTURES] folder
2.Copy the contents of [UNDERTRACKS] folder into FS9/Scenery/World/Texture
3.Open the [TRAINS] folder
4.There are 10 sub-folders in it containing different combinations of train carriages.
5.Choose any one you like and open the folder, copy the RAILROADSU.BMP file into
  FS9/Scenery/World/Texture

Thats it. The core file is the railroadsu.bmp file which will show the trains in FS9. And also in Ultimate Terrain.

                 ABOUT THIS FREEWARE PACK "PHOTORAILS"

No more empty deserted railway lines and empty railroad yards!!

Like Stephen and everyone else in the Birds Eye View Project, I have been in a quest to increase the realism of FS2004 as much as I can. Those who have birds eye view might know my work with the autogen buildings, the electricity pylons, the water and photorealistic trees.

I have attempted to alter the realism of the roads, in my project UTRoads2.zip available on www.avsim.com and www.flightsim.com and the birds eye view website www.flightsim-bev.com. The results of altering the roads were pretty good, in my humble opinion. Then I attempted changing the water (aawater3.zip) to a more realistic, subtle colour, with less gaudy bright blue colour and better reflection effects. Also making tropical water a less bright and garish color with gentle
transitions to shallow to deep waters. Also, water looks smoother at the right
altitudes rather than having over emphasised oversized waves painted into the textures.

With this freeware, I turned my attention to the railroads!! I have always been irritated by all the empty railway lines in FS2004. Ultimate Terrain did an amazing job of bringing the road and railway network of different continents to life, but now we have miles and miles of empty railway tracks!!

WELL NO MORE!!! Now you will see passenger and freight bogeys speeding away on railroads in the cities and country side, and clusters of trains parked in railway yards!! Now you can have a race with those trains flying treetop over the countryside, parallel to the tracks!! hehe You will see the common white passenger bogeys along with the tan/dark brown cargo bogeys. You will see industrial yellow bogeys and blue bogeys!! FS2004 springs to life !! You will be able to fly VFR more easily, being able to identify the railway lines more clearly from a distance! I have also thinned the appearance of railway lines from the air, since ultimate terrain makes them way too wide. Check out photos of Google. Most Railway lines are usually as thin as local roads, sometimes thinner.

These will work in all seasons. Also, in Ultimate Terrain, switching 'Enhanced Railroads' on or off will still show these textures. (enhanced railroads switched on will show the railyards and a more intricate rail network)
