• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Compiling problem

The thing says that it can't find the airport bgl, even though I'm able to open it. It says: Can't copy BGL file into the destination folder:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\BGL Compiler SDK\Princess Juliana Intl TNCM.BGL (The system cannot find the file specified)

What can I do to correct it?

Oh yeah, I have the same problem as the other guy, all folders seem empty when you browse with FSX Planner, but not when you press do a windows search. I think somethings wrong with the browsing thing in FSXPlanner because it looks older and different from the run one and as I allready told you, all the folders/files are empty except for empty files in them, sometimes.

I'm having the same issues - can't compile and unable to see the files when browsing through FSXP - anybody have any answers ??

Does the compile succedd up to this point? If you browse to the folder in windows is the bgl file there?

Are you using Vista? If so this may be related to the Vista security manager.

thanks russell,

For me anyway, the compile appears to work up to this point. This is certainly the only error message that I get when I try to compile.

I am running Vista (32) and have tried to give increased access to the folder through the security settings (i'm already the admin on the computer but I tried giving 'Full Control' to all users too). This resulted in a mass of error messages relating to the XML code being wrong, but not as far as I could see, did I get the original message that time ("Can't copy BGL file into the destination folder...") .

any more suggestions would be very welcome.

thanks,
rory.

So the bgl file is compiled properly, and when you manually check, it is in the folder that contains bglcomp.exe, correct? (Should be here: C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\BGL Compiler SDK\Princess Juliana Intl TNCM.BGL)

Then what folder do you have set as your destination folder?

Hi Russell,

No, the file is not in the folder if I check manually. Seemingly the only way that I can get it to compile without an error message is to create a .txt file with the same file name and rename it to a .bgl so that at least it finds the file it is looking for. When compiled however, the file I have manually created in the folder is unchanged (ie not replaced by the compile process).

As Fleron230 said, I too cannot see any of the files (BGLScan.exe, bglcomp.xsd, etc) in the BGL Compiler SDK folder if I browse through FSXP.

The destination folder is set to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X\Addon Scenery.

Rory.

You are using Vista, correct? If so I bet this is to do with Vista's security systems. Can you try runnning FSX Planner as an administrator? To do this right click on the FSX Planner.exe file and choose 'Run As Administrator'. Even if you are an administrator in Vista you still are not necessarily allowed to write files to the Program Files folder which is what FSX Planner is trying to do here. Running FSX Planner as an administrator, as described above, will allow it to write files to the Program Files folder.

-Russell

I'm not using vista, although I have about the same problem. I have Windows XP (SP2 or whatever it's called), and the newest version of FSX, with a reinstalled SDK with SP1a and SP1.

Oh yeah, the compile did not suceed up to this point. It had all these weird errors, but I think it's because FSXP cannot find BGLCompiler. I can't copy all of the errors at once, only one line at a time (even using Control+C), so it would take a while to copy it. Sorry, I haven't been on in a while because the new posts come by slowly.

You should be able to just select all the text in the compile screen and then copy and paste it.

Hi Russell, I have run the app 'as administrator' and the errors (the beginning at least) are like this:

Now that I have run the app as the administrator, I can no longer run the app in the mode that I had before. When I do run it now (not as administrator) I cannot open an XML file, it simply goes back to the app with a blank screen. If I try to exit the app, it freezes (and I have to stop the process from running manually).

Any ideas,
Rory.

Have you installed the latest SDK service pack from fsinsider? The boundary fence error you are getting was very common with the SDK prior to the first service pack. I believe the latest one is SP1A.

Did you run any error checking or clean up options on this before compiling it? There seem to be a lot of errors that should have been picked up or fixed by those two options.

One other thing I noticed right off the bat is that one of your runway path point is "0" (51-48-0-32...). I might be wrong, but I don't think a waypoint to could be "0". Hence you have an invalid taxipoint.

But as George said, you have no assigned number/direction, hence it can not associate it with the actual rwy.

Yeah, I did the error checking and all that. Anyways, I don't need the airport anymore, just bought FlyTampa St.Martin, but I guess ill post the XML.

I seem to be having the same type problem as others are posting here. I am using Vista Ultimate and the SP1a patch to the compiler. No errors are reported during the error check. Error text follows:

Parse complete!

Can't copy BGL file into the destination folder:
C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\SDK\Environment Kit\BGL Compiler SDK\Allen Co K88.BGL (The system cannot find the file specified)

The only things changed from the stock version of the airport is the length and width of the runway, which has been extended in both length and width. Tunway length shows a 5.5 f no matter what I enter should be 5,500.00 feet long.
