• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

    P3D v4 Beta with Prepar3D v4 support

Hi Arno, for some reason ACM doesn't detect P3D v4.1 when I install it. It sees only my FSX installed on the same rig, all other options are greyed. How could I solve the problem? On which file/directory/registry key does ACM rely on to give us the choice?

Controlling a simple light visibility distance? I can't

Thanks for answering Paul. I came to the same conclusions. If we use a type 25 (light emitting effect) the visibility is out of proportions with the actual size of the source. Say a "small lamp" for a tiny harbour lighthouse only 8" in diameter will be visible miles away but when you fly by...

    Swinging, wobbling objects: how?

You're very kind but not so far from truth, after all. Because I tried (in Gmax) linking 3 dummy boxes, one moving up and down, a second one tilting, a third one banking, and linked #3 to #2 to #1. Then imported a 3DS export of my buoy MDL from MCX, and linked the imported buoy to dummy box...

    Swinging, wobbling objects: how?

Yes, I could try and do that in Gmax, but my natural laziness drives me to look for a smart way to re-use something already made ;)

    Swinging, wobbling objects: how?

Ah yes Rick, got it. Thanks. Out of these 10 animations, only #7 and #8 are moving the buoy, others seem to have no effect at all. So if I "fix" (? = delete) these, I am left with the 2 active ones. OK. Now, is it a way to clone these animations into another model? A way to export them to be...

    Swinging, wobbling objects: how?

Hi all, Still working on marine objects. Now that I have modelled sea buoys, I find they are too static. In our simulators, buoys gently dance and swing along with the sea surface. In examining in MCX the stock models (gen_buoy_01red and _02green) I can see "platforms" attached to their bases...

    Nice! Thanks Arno ;)

FXEdited effects don't show in sim's FX Tool edit window: why?

Btw. is it possible that these "flaws" come from using FXE to create effects to be rendered in P3D2xx? A matter of DX11? Dunno...

FXEdited effects don't show in sim's FX Tool edit window: why?

In fact I begin to understand that, AS FOR LIGHTS EFFECTS and as far as I see for now, I can't rely on FxEditor to tweak them correctly and see the same in the sim afterwards. Some settings, mainly timings, display fine in FxEditor but not at all in the sim. For instance, my usual way to switch...

FXEdited effects don't show in sim's FX Tool edit window: why?

Read my typing George ;) Mine shows fine in FxEditor, too, but NOT in the simulator FX Tool menu window...

Controlling a simple light visibility distance? I can't

Yes of course one can use a type 3 controller and add a distance value, it works. But it adds an effect to control another effect, so makes 2 effects running. I wouild have preferred to keep just one. ;) Effects are weird, and as you say: we just have this very summary SDK document written by a...

FXEdited effects don't show in sim's FX Tool edit window: why?

Hi all, why do effects tweaked in FXEditor and running OK not display with all details in the sim's FxTool/FxEdit window? This is annoying because it prevents the tweaked effect to be viewed "for real" from inside the simulator. I have noticed that sometimes effects are fine when viewed in...

Controlling a simple light visibility distance? I can't

I am puzzled by the way(s) to control the visibility range of a light source. Taking the example of the simple fx_chanlbuoygre : let's say this effect is a bit over done, as the green light is visible from more than 7 km away which is not realistic. In harbours in real life, these lights are...

    Prepar3D v2 support

Arno please, a wish for a fix! There is something annoying with the "save as" function, because FXE does not behave as (nearly) all windows apps do. Actually when in FXE you "save as" you create a new instance of the effect you are editing BUT this effect has still its current (former) name in...

A model with no diffuse texture: is it possible?

You're right, that's what I do for other models, eg. wind driven like socks or windmills, and radio controlled runway lights. I did not investigate yet to see if multiplying SODE objects has a big impact on framerates or not (I should make a secene with tens of them just to see). Models with a...
