• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

    1938 Aeronca K Project Update

With winter approaching I think it's time to get back to working on the luton. I've actually been busy making lots of model aircraft that can be 3D printed https://www.shapeways.com/shops/decapod?section=Aircraft&s=0 What stopped me with the Luton was the fuel gauge. I was trying to simulate...

    1938 Aeronca K Project Update

I remember making one of those engines for FSX :) or at least a UK licence built JAP version... This one's been sitting waiting to be finished off for years now:

    Microsoft flight released

MS Flight is however a decendant of FSX. Those PAK files are just renamed zip files - look in those and you'll see a lot of familiar file types. They even left in a few files from the Train Sim 2 development. I'm still hopeful for future versions (but not very hopeful)

FSXA 3D Trees and Maximum Poly Count

I think I hit a max poly/vertex count problem with too many objects and drawcall batching some time ago. Models were placed OK with OPT but just didn't appear when running in the sim. My objects were generally slightly higher poly bombing targets but lots of them with the same...

    FS2004 Jindivik

Flyable model for FS2004 - may be worth speaking to Keith if you want a static model. http://www.britsim.com/index.php?option=com_remository&Itemid=162&func=fileinfo&id=1516 The Llanbedr scenery is on that site too.

    FS2004 Very Basic Fuel Gauge

MaskImage problem ... Not quite working It works if I do not have a mask image but the shadow moves below the pipe. As soon as I add a mask the whole thing vanishes. <Gauge Name="la4fuel" Version="1.0"> <Image Name="la4fuelfull.bmp" /> <!-- ================== Fuel tube...

    FS2004 Very Basic Fuel Gauge

Fixed and working - just need to invert the alpha and add a mask now but it should work perfectly after that. One of those obvious problems - the background file name was wrong lafuelfull.bmp instead of la4fuelfull.bmp Almost finished the model now :)

    FS2004 Very Basic Fuel Gauge

Thanks chaps - still not working though. It's not appearing at all on the panel, I suspect I may have a bmp format problem somewhere. I'll go back to basics with the cub and work from there when I get time. Here's the panel so far, the fuel gauge is currently just on the background.

    FS2004 Very Basic Fuel Gauge

I'm probably trying something that's not possible but I need a fuel gauge that is a piece of clear plastic pipe that shows the fuel tank level. (max 7 gallons) I have a background of just the pipe (20x370pixels) and an element of a black bitmap with alpha that should move down as the tank...

    X-Plane Textures

The 1 diffuse texture limit applies to any OBJ file in XP - but aircraft can be made up of a combination of OBJ files. An OBJ is equivalent to a draw call.

Making planes and scenery, 3D Design Engines, and Flight

Unlikely in the near future - I first saw sketchup before google bought it. It was an architecture design tool and simple to use but this came at a price. The meshes it produces are not always as efficient (more polys etc) as other tools that export in game formats. I even wrote a ruby...

Making planes and scenery, 3D Design Engines, and Flight

More usually it's a variation of a known file format that is then conveted with a tool provided by MS. I know aces were looking at other more standard formats like DAE but my bet will be that they stick to .X - they can change that in any way they want. It will then be down to the plugin...

    X-Plane on FSDeveloper?

Recent versions of XP9 have this too

X-Plane and the future of Simming

I'm up for discussions on XP. I have partly written an XP OBJ export tool for my modelling tool (3D Crafter aka 3D Canvas) and have uploaded a few static scenery items on the XP site. I just wish I had more spare time to work on finishing it.

    Rhino 3D...?

POVray is a freeware renderer, I think there is also a plugin for sketchup to export to it... http://www.povray.org/

    Rhino 3D...?

The FSX BA Swallow has all bump/spec mapping enabled and is fully animated - including VC. The same model was exported to FS2004. The Pro version is needed - $70, not free but not $Max either :) Bones are available but I'm waiting till version 8 of 3DC is really stable before adding them...

    Rhino 3D...?

3D canvas limited !? :) ;) ;) click for BIG pic Only bones are not supported in FSX, otherwise it has the same options as MAX/gMax, there is also now a static model export to X-Plane - still working on animations. If the Flight SDK describes the file format you can be sure to see an...

FSXA VC Gauge poly gone black??

Is it bump mapped? Make sure the polys have different U and V values - zero width/height texture mapping can cause black polys if they are bump mapped.

    Payware Design Software

I had better add my 2p. I (and only a couple of others) have successfully used 3D Canvas Pro 7.1.2 ($70) to build FS9 and FSX Native models - http://www.amabilis.com This model and VC were made entirely using 3D canvas and an old paint tool called picture publisher...

    FSXA Odd prop animation

I eventually fixed my prop problem. I had everything defined correctly but no slow prop visible and the blurred prop was not animating. All visibility tags were correct and all animations were correct. I had noticed in the intermediate X file that the slow and blurred were defined before...
