• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Disappearing aircraft in FSX after placement using ADE

May not be related, but I have seen a problem where some textures seem to have a "use count". If they are used more times than their "'use count" they simply vanish in all models where they are used. As described here...

FSX:SE Help Please with prop animation

That's really interesting. I've converted many FS9 a/c to FSX for AI, but they've all been flyable models, so only LOD 100. I suspect had I tried to convert a FS9 AI model I might well have tripped over the same problem as Andrew. Might be worth adding a note to your tutorial, Tom ?

FSX:SE Help Please with prop animation

I doubt you'll find a simpler explanation than Tom's tutorial. Chapter 2 on Saving and Animating The Props takes you through the process step by step. If you follow that exactly, then in my experience it should work in most cases. Perhaps if you have problem with a particular step then you could...

FSX AI Aircraft Engine Start Sequence

That's what I feared. But I had to ask !

FSX AI Aircraft Engine Start Sequence

I suspect I know the answer to this question, but I have to ask it anyway. Is there any way to change the engine startup sequence on AI prop a/c ? Reason I ask is that I have an a/c which, as a flyable model in response to autostart (Ctrl+E), starts the engines in sequence 1,2,3,4. This isn't...

    FSX Slowing Down Animation

    Bingo. I did just that and it worked. I added the following to modeldef: <Animation name="Bomb_Doors" guid="43926dbf-026d-4df0-ab72-5414037b8bdb" length="100" type="Sim" typeparam2="Bomb_Doors" typeParam="AutoPlay"/> <PartInfo> <Name>Bomb_Doors</Name>...

    FSX Slowing Down Animation

Hi guys - thanks for this useful input. I had already started down the road of playing with the lever_speed_brake entry in modeldef, and there do seem to be some hard-coded restrictions. Changing the Lag parameter makes no difference - it just gets reset to 200 when the model is compiled (you...

    FSX Slowing Down Animation

OK. I bit the bullet and changed the timing on all the frames in the animations I want to slow down. All 600 of them. I increased the timing on each one so that the timing between them was 5.0 instead of 1.0. And in MCX the animation of all the parts runs from start to finish at an appropriately...

    FSX Slowing Down Animation

I'm sure I'm missing something. Is there a quick way to slow down an animation other than changing the timings on all the frames ? I have an animation with six parts, each with 100 frames, so that will take a while ! I thought changing the Length might do it, but that doesn't seem to have an...

FSX AI Not Communicating With ATC After Takeoff

I should say so far I have only noticed this problem on the very simple take off, fly a circuit, and land at the same airport flight plan. Regular point to point flights seem (seem) to behave normally even without the above parameter set. Happy for this thread to be moved into the general AI...

FSX AI Not Communicating With ATC After Takeoff

I've spent a couple days on this, and I've found the answer (for me). It wasn't what I expected. It turns out that the magic parameter is electric_always_available =1 in the [electrical] section of the aircraft.cfg file. With this parameter set to 0, all my AI a/c (about a dozen of them)...

FSX AI Not Communicating With ATC After Takeoff

All my airfields have three frequencies - ATIS, Ground and Tower. I can easily change one of them to single frequency and see if that makes a difference. But don't forget the failing a/c have already switched from Ground to Tower and received Take Off clearance. What should happen next is Tower...

FSX AI Not Communicating With ATC After Takeoff

Thanks guys - good thoughts. Today I ran some more controlled tests, using the simple test flight plan, three of my AI a/c (not including the newest one) and two of my airfields, including the one where I first identified the problem. The results were interesting. All three a/c taxied, took...

FSX AI Not Communicating With ATC After Takeoff

Thanks guys. Don - yes I know I don't need to convert to FSX to fly FS9 AI in FSX. I did the conversion for another reason and then decided to do an AI version using the FSX model. Anyhow, it looks like I misdiagnosed the problem. It's not just one a/c that has the problem. I've tried 2 or 3...

    MSFS Individual airport a.i. files

They are just BGL files, so they can be placed in the same scenery folder as the airport scenery. If you do that they will be activated along with the airport in the scenery library. I keep mine separate so that I can activate them independent of the airport scenery. Ooops - just noticed your...

FSX AI Not Communicating With ATC After Takeoff

I just converted another a/c to FSX and AI. I plugged it into my standard simple AI test flight plan (takeoff, do a circuit and return), which if flies beautifully and correctly. However, although the pilot requests (and receives) taxi clearance from Ground and takeoff clearance from Tower...

    MSFS Individual airport a.i. files

You sure can. I have separate traffic files for each of my airports (actually WW2 airfields) plus a couple of other traffic files with flights travelling between them. All can be active at the same time, although that tends to kill my (quite old) system, so I just activate the ones relating to...

FSX One Button Flight Save/Reload Facility

I've discovered the workaround above has an added bonus. Now if I should happen to crash somehow (it happens) during the flight or on or after landing, instead of FSX automatically reloading my flight from the beginning, it now reloads the latest autosaved Previous Flight file, which is...

FSX One Button Flight Save/Reload Facility

I think I've found a workaround which almost achieves what I was looking for. It requires Pete Dowson's FSUIPC, but otherwise just standard FSX. The key to the workaround is the standard FSX Reset function ( invoked by "Ctrl+;" by default but can be mapped to any key/button). This reloads a FLT...

FSX One Button Flight Save/Reload Facility

Saving/Reloading a flight can be an effective solution when running short of VAS in FSX. On my system it can recover as much as 1GB. I know there are several tools out there to save flights manually or automatically, but you still have to use the FSX UI to do the reload. What I'm looking for is...
