• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

    MSFS20 Aerial Images (Airport Background)

Did you compile for LOD20? That is the highest the sim will do, and when you build the package all other LOD levels are create for you from 20.

    MSFS20 Aerial Images (Airport Background)

Thank you for this, you actually gave me a great idea. You can find out the "gen" number that sim is using and adjust your QGIS URL and load in the same generation of tiles as the sim is using. Once you've done that it should be only a matter of using the correct generation of tiles to apply...

    MSFS20 Aerial Images (Airport Background)

Yeah its really strange. I've checked the imagery URLs that the sim is hitting and they are the same as the standard Bing/VirtualEarth URLs, which logically means that if you colour correct against those same URLs then you should be golden, but the thing is it's just not the case. I'm 99%...

You wonderful person! Thank you for this. I had a feeling it was something to do with channels but I'm not yet advanced enough to figure it out! Brilliant solution!

    MSFS20 Finally aerial imagery

Thank you! So presumably I need to manually adjust my own image repeatedly until I hit an acceptable match. Are there any reference images available so we have something to aim at, or is it just a case of keep trying until we get something that looks ok? :)

    MSFS20 Finally aerial imagery

So here is a comparison I took of the masked image I created VS what ends up in the simulator. As you can see there is a massive colour difference which I cannot explain. The processed I used was: 1) I captured a bing raster image using another program. 2) Using QGIS Geo-referenced the...

    MSFS20 Finally aerial imagery

Success! Thank you very much for the assistance. So as a newbie, I assume my next steps are to now edit the original raster, omitting certain areas, correcting colour and applying feathering where needed. Then I assume I can use the same geo-referencing points I setup before on the newly edited...

    MSFS20 Finally aerial imagery

Hi All, I wonder if you could give me some advice. I've already posted this in a similar topic about aerials but thought I'd ask here too as you seem to be having success. I've been using a tool provided by another dev which splits an aerial image up using a .map file. The tool itself appears...

    MSFS20 Aerial Images (Airport Background)

I had a similar issue when I was trying to use it on a VERY large image at zoom 23. You should use zoom level 20 from your source, and select LOD 20 in the tool as well. This was the fix for me.

    MSFS20 Aerial Images (Airport Background)

Hi there! Thanks for the approval. I too have managed to get my new aerial into the sim using the tool provided at the start of this topic, many thanks! However, I'm also getting a strange blue/green tone applied to my images which isn't present when viewing the source tiles in Photoshop or...
