• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA 3D Gauge glass reflections

My first aircraft model is almost ready for release (freeware) but I've hit a bit of a show stopper.

I used to have moving reflections on the gauge glass using the global environment map but disliked the trees and mountains showing so I tried to change it to reflections of the VC.

Unfortunately I am now in a situation where I can't get the internal reflections to show and trying to go back to where I was doesn't work either as I changed something in the material settings and now the GEM doesn't show up at all. :banghead:

Has anyone got a technique, recipe, suggestions on how I can move forward with this as the glass is almost non-existent now. I can't even get static reflections to show in the glass never mind dynamic ones.

Thanks for that link. I was able to use that in combination with studying the SDK and managed to generate a working cubic environment map so now I have dynamic reflections on both my gauge glass and cockpit window glass.

Larry, the hardest part is taking the screenshots needed to create the cubic map to begin with... :D

Actually that was the easy part, the hard part for me was realizing that I actually needed to create a cubic map in order to do what I wanted to do.

Without that key piece of knowledge all previous efforts were doomed to failure and I couldn't understand why. That missing jigsaw piece was all I needed to complete the puzzle!

Wozza had a brilliant way. Just hide the parts in front, get in front of the cockpit looking towards the rear and shoot a screenshot. If you need the the interior for window reflections, do the same. Sometimes you can find photos online to use, but good luck on that.

Bill, that's what I did for the 737-200's reflections. Instead of screenshots though, I use Max's Render to Texture function, but the end result was pretty much the same.
