• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

About "Texture Sheet"

Hello... I have built an object with Sketchup and imported in MCX.
Then, I use the "minimize drawcall" and the "Mass Texture Editor".
Eventually, I get two files: the "texture sheet" and another image.
In that last image I can see some of the small photos I had in the Texture Sheet but not all of them.

So I don't understand... Apparently I need both images otherwise I have some textures missing in FS.

Why do I have some small photos in both files? I thought I would get just one file: the famous "texture sheet".

If you don't understand I can attach some images.

Thanks and sorry for my english.

In MCX go into the material editor and click "highlight in preview" and you'll probably find that "texture1" is mapped to a small part of the model (like one of the eaves or something) while "texture0" is mapped to the rest of it. It seems to have something to do with the way the textures got mapped in Sketchup, maybe the pins too close to the edge of the bitmap or something.

Open the project back up in Sketchup and reset/reposition the texture for that particular face and re-export it. With any luck at all you'll wind up with only a "texture0" this time and you wont need to run the draw call minimizer at all. Just assign your texture_sheet.bmp in place of "texture0" and compile.

It seems like I have to do this at least once for everything I build in Sketchup when I first try to export it.

Hi Jim. You were right !
With your help the problem has been solved. I got just one "texture sheet" without using the "minimize drawcall".
Thanks a lot!

Hi,

A little more background information.

The drawcall minimizer can not process textures correctly that are repeating on the model. So if you have a stone or roof texture that is tiled, it will not be contained in the newly generated texture sheet. In that case you can have multiple textures in your original model.

Before using the drawcall minimizer it is always a good idea to check how many textures the model actually uses. For example if there are only a few, then trying to combine them on a big 1024x1024 texture sheet is not so smart. You might be better of setting the texture sheet size to 512x512. It might take some experimentation to find out what gives the best results.

Hopefully this helps a bit,
