• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

ACM for FSX?

As an example, what i am missing in the SDK manuals is a variable in the aircraft.cfg file:

ui_thumbnailfile

it allows to place the thumbnail JPEG of the airplane in a folder different from the texture folder. This is for instance used by Carenado, Alphasim and Lionheart.

Can i be sure that there aren't also other variables missing in the SDK?

Karl-Heinz

Karl, at last count there are at least six different ways to list and display a thumbnail image...

By far the easiest is to name it "thumbnail.jpg" and have it in the ..\texture.xxx folder (where xxx is the sub-folder name).

The ui_thumbnailfile is expecting a path relative to where FSX.EXE is and therefore will only work for aircraft within the flight sim install directory.

One of the other methods is this:

You can place a file based on the string contained in the "title=xxx" item in each .x section within the aircraft.cfg.

If the aircraft.cfg contains:

title=Cessna 182 Paint Job 3

then the thumbnail filename would be:

Cessna 182 Paint Job 3.jpg (or .bmp)

I didn't know that the tumbnail can have the titel's name. Thx, that's the kind of information i need for ACM.

I think that ui_thumbnailfile expects a path relative to the folder where the aircraft.cfg sits, doesn't it?

But, i wanted to ask, if abybody knows about other undocumented variables in the aircraft.cfg file. What about (for example):

atc_id_font

which is used by Carenado, Lotus, Alphasim, Digital Aviation, Flight Replicas and A2A. Is it still functional in FSX?

Karl-Heinz

No, atc__id_font has been depecrated.

Hi Bill,

ATC_ID_FONT is still working. But the font size seems to need other values than FS9. Try this line with the Cessna 172:

atc_id_font=Pepita MT, -100, 1, 1000, 1

If you don't have the font Pepita MT, use another font.

ATC_IC_COLOR is otherwise buggy. FSX seems to ignore this line and paints the N-numbers only black.

Ciao, Sergio

Hi,

came across this thread doing a search to see if I could turn up any news about ACM for FSX. It's good to hear you are making progress as ACM is sorely missed. Something that would be a nice feature is to provide graphic/visual setting of the FSX door (exits) data for the jetway/luggage ramp.

I am going to kindly bump this. I hope all is well on it Karl. I massively am looking forward to it. If I can be of any help, please let me know.

Any news on ACM for FSX? Really miss using it. Also really sucks trying to get it to work on Windows 7 (64-bit). Anyone have any luck with that?

Looking for Aircraft Container Manager

Does anyone know where I can find this tool? I have MAIW and would like to edit the lights section with shockwave 3D lights.

First i want to say that ACM for FSX will be freeware like AAM.

Karl-Heinz

I just ran across this post and although it is a bit dated I hope you are well Karl and that your project ACM for FSX is coming along. I certainly look forward to having a copy of it. I do think that your work has value and if you give it as freeware please allow us to donate.
