• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Adding object in ADE

Hello folks,
so I have been able to design an object(building) in Sketchup, able to convert it into a .BGL file but when I got to ADE,I am not able to add it to the library.

I went into Tools>Library Object manager.

The following images will show what I did. When I try to add the object(which is already a .bgl),the system tells me "no usable objects found in the file".

Can someone explain what to do next? Thanks in advance.
,Severin.

Well ADE does not usually get it wrong. It is looking for mdl files in the bgl file and if it can't find any then that is what it reports.

An alternative is to use the mdl file directly in ADE. To try this use Lists > Models to get the model list. Use the Add button to locate and add your mdl file to the project. Close the List.

Now Right Click > Add > Model and select your model. ADE should then be able to place it.

If that does not work then I would wonder if the model you created is actually valid for FS. ADE looks for certain markers in the file that designate a model. If it cannot find them then it will report the message that saw.

Check the MDL source file and the resulting BGL file. Are either 0 KB? If so, you have not yet created a valid library object.

Hope this helps,

Okay I will try all these suggestions.I will let you know how it goes. Thanks guys.:)

I have a question about using custom Models. I have tried to use them but when I load them into p3d i don't see anything except a black square where the model is supposed to be. Do you know what's wrong?

Did you add the models in the ADE list view? That should ensure that they are not black box - that means ADE knows nothing about them. Or do you mean a black square in the sim?

If it is a black square in the sim and you used Add Model to place it in ADE, you need to add the textures for the object into the "texture" folder adjoining the ADE airport BGL file.
