• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi everybody.
Knowing that gmax is in its final run and that the only site that allows downloading gmax with an installation code is this http://www.turbosquid.com/gmax I'm asking if there is a way to export gmax files into any 3dsmax (4, 5, 6, 7 and 8)?
I fear I know the answer :( :( , but I value so much the people who reads and post in this forum, not to have a try :D :D
Thanks for any reply.

Ciao.

There is a way. 3DS can't import .gmax files, but you can use other types that are recognised by both programs.

You need to get hold of the Gmax gamepack for a game called Tempest. This includes a Gmax plugin that will let you export as a Quake 3 .MD3 file. You then also either need a 3DSMax plugin for MD3 files, or you can use Milkshape 3D to convert it onto a .3DS file which can be read by 3DSMax.

Its a bit convoluted I know, but it works. The only drawback is that you lose all your texture information. The UVW maps are still there though, so all you have to do is remake the materials and re-apply them - all your mapping information is kept.
