• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

AI Boat Stability

Have a problem that's driving me crazy...I created an AI ship (with LOD) which works well in FS9 using traditional-style flightplans created with TTools. The boat was compiled using the default 747-400 airfile (it's an icebreaker, around 110 metres long). Upon porting the FS9 version (incl. flightplans) into FSX it shows up but doesn't move. Now, have started using AIBTC and managed to create proper FSX route plans, along with copying a default ship folder (e.g., Cargo A) and simply replacing the ship's title name and static cg height in the .cfg file, as well as the textures. I managed to find the sucker sitting in the sea but it bobs around a lot then drops nose-first and disappears. Have no idea how to fix this, as it appears the contact points work fine in FS9. Look forward to any help I can get as boats are something completely new here, and this is the last item to finish before a scenery project is to be released. Many thanks in advance.

Hi,

I do not know what program you built this ship model with, but your problem certainly never occurred before in FSX using a default sim.cfg.
I made a GSU model of a ferry (not finished by far) but curious to know what the result would be, I ran it through MCX and made an AIBTC route for it. And it works fine.
Now, Are you sure you also entered the stern position correctly?
Is the cfg the same as the one in your model?
No contact points are needed, as far as I know.
By the way, boats are not new here at all, nor elsewhere. Have a look at ww.fs-shipyards.com or www.fs-shipyards.org and you will find dozens that can all be used as AI in FSX.

Apologies for the late response, got everything working now. I used a different default boat as the donor and for some reason, the ship is now stable, and also displays nicely when traveling upon the sea. Many thanks again.
