• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

AI formation?

For FSX, there is a file called "formationsetup.zip" probably downloadable from flightsim.com.
If FS9 then you will probably have to start making AFCAD2 overlay airports and special flightplans.

I meant like AI Flight Planner or something, where the AI are in formation and not relevant to the user aircraft

Hi,

That would mean you would have to make adapted AFCADs in FSX also.
You would have to make overlay airports and make sure the AI planes taxi the same distance from the parking spot to the (parallel invisible double or triple) runway start positions. The same for the arrival airport otherwise your AI's would all gather at the same point upon approach.
The AI flightplanner flightplans can be the same.
Alternatively, there are some FS9 red arrow planes that could be used as AI.

There was a mission that Jim K did where he demonstrates the use of SIMVAR in a mission system extension -- not sure, maybe you have to use Jim's FSX Mission Editor.

Anyway in Jim's demo mission, you take off in a Mooney from West Cairo behind another airplane. Then the airplane will alternately (a) fly behind your player aircraft or (b) fly behind another AI aircraft.... depending on player input. So something like that can be done, I would say.

"It adds several commands to the FSX mission system allowing you to do much more."... including:

WPT : Set dynamic waypoints relative to the player or an AI

Ripcord

With AIFP write a plan that uses, say, 3 planes that leave the same airport at the same time, and have the same arrival airport. Go to the arrival airport near the arrival time( some miles towards the departure airport). You should see your planes flying very close together. May not be what you are looking for. It only works if you start FS at the arrival airport.
