• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

AI not following FPs

I am new to AI FlightPlanner and recently created my first flight plans with that tool. One of the planes takes off and continues on runway heading and never turns on a course toward toward the destination airport. The second plane takes off, turns to correct course, flies to the destination airport but then continues on past the destination indefinately. Both destination airports are stock FSX airports and have parking available. Any ideas as to what might be amiss?

We really need to know some specifics.

Which takeoff and destination airports? Which aircraft? What flight dynamics? We are probably going to need to see the actual flight plan .txt file or .bgl.

I can think of a couple ideas as to the problem and solution (if any), but those might be wrong in your instance.

Thanks for the response, Reggie. Following are the two flight plans:

AC#50,TI-1016,1%,12Hr,VFR
(1) 01:10,02:10,035,F,0105,MUCF
(2) 02:30,03:30,025,F,0106,MUHA

AC#55,CU-REAL,1%,12Hr,VFR
(1) 01:00,02:54,035,F,0101,MUMZ
(2) 03:14,03:40,035,F,0101,MUBY
(3) 04:00,04:32,035,F,0101,MUCU
(4) 04:52,05:21,055,F,0101,MUGT
(5) 05:41,08:00,065,F,0102,MUHA

The first is thhe one that flies to the airport but then continues on (Havana to Cienfuegos) the second is the one where the aircraft never turns to the first destination (Havana to Manzinillo).

Both of these aircraft are FS2004 Convair 340s from the California Classics site. I am using them in FSX and they fly fine. Perhaps something needs to be added to their cfg file?

Are these the user or AI versions? User aircraft often do not make good AI.

I usually find it best when learning new software or testing things, to use default planes and stock airports. That way you know more of where a problem might be.

Bob

After you test your plan with the default aircraft and you get it working, check back to the Calif Classic site. Down the right hand side main page is a menu item for AI aircraft. They do include the CV340.

Apart from it being in the middle of the night, I had no problem with the MUCF / MUHA flight.

Don't forget that you need to be at the destination airport 15 minutes before arrival to see the AI aircraft land.

Rick: I was aware that CalClassics had AI aircraft, but didn't think they would work with the paints I wanted. Is it possible to "create" a new AI convair using the air file from an AI and the model and textures from a user plane?

George: What I actually did was follow the aircraft from takeoff to destination, instead of just going to the destination airport. Would that make AI behave differently?

Possibly. If you were in the pattern, the AI aircraft would not be given clearance to land.

What were you using to follow the AI aircraft?

Traffic View Board, something similar, or were you flying your own aircraft behind the AI aircraft?

TVB can affect some AI aircraft behavior.

I was using my own aircraft. I did an experiment with another FS2004 aircraft and observed similar behavior. I changed the air file to one from an AI airplane and then it behaved correctly. So that solved that problem. Now I'm having problems with AI Flightplanner compiled traffic files. They compile and decompile OK, they validate OK, but the planes aren't there in FSX. I've checked all different times, used Traffic Tools Explorer, and the planes aren't there. However, if I take the same file and compile it in TrafficTools, the planes are where they should be and work fine. It seems I'm doing something wrong compiling with AI Flightplanner, but why would the file compile, but not work?

Hi,

I bet you have some FS2004 style traffic_bgl's in your scenery/world/scenery.
If you have, traffic compiled FSX style will not show up.
Use AIFP search function to check for FS9 files and convert them.

Hi,

I'll bet you're right.
It finally soaked in last night, after having read it at least a half dozen times in the operator's manual. Not sure what I was thinking, but I have a bunch of WOAI traffic files. So I either convert them all, or start compiling the new ones in FS2004. I understand that if you use the FS2004 format your boat traffic stops working?

Again, I find it best to use a stock AI plane when I am testing flight plans or an airport. Three things happen if you use FS9 FPs in FSX.

1. Days of the week are off by one day. This matters if you are using weekly plans, and expect to see planes on certain days.

B. I understand (as you note) some boat traffic disappears. I haven't seen this, but then I don't use FS9 traffic files.

3. Default FSX AI will not spawn in the traffic area where you load into FSX. However default traffic from outside your traffic area will start to show up.

Maybe these things are not important. Then again, using proper format files will be less for the sim to sort through.

Bob

Well, at any rate whether I convert them, or stay with the FS9 format, I'm delighted to have it working. It is a very cool tool and easy to use. Makes flight planning fun. I've had and used FSX since it came out, but never messed with the traffic until now. I used traffictool in FS9, but not extensively. As I get older, the learning process seems to get harder. But I enjoy having things to do other than just the flying. I enjoy remodeling the airports and scenery and landclass. Never was any good at painting planes or modeling....but now I can enjoy creating some AI flight plans.
