• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX AIFP not seeing FSX-SE

I've been trying to get AIFP v3.1.14 to use fsx-se instead of fsx. I've even changed the fsx.cfg so aifp wouldn't see fsx, but it doesn't see the fsx_se.cfg. It has me find it, but then aifp sets everything to fs9. I use to have it but not any more. And it won't let me change it from fs9 to fsx. I'm running windows 10 pro 64-bit. Then if I try to have aifp use the steam ai aircraft folders, when adding new planes, it still wants to add them in fsx. I can compile the bgl into steam. I can add planes using windows explorer, but it would be nice to use aifp. It would be nice to have a cfg file in aifp that you could set the locations of your folders. Trying this way is not working for me.

I'll have to experiment a bit, John. AIFP looks in the registry, If it finds FSX, it's not going to look any further. But, it shouldn't matter. It's what's in the Simobjects entries in FSX.cfg that count.

I recall the bottom line is that AIFP will use either FSX or FSX-SE, but not both at the same time. How is AIFP to know which you prefer?

That being said, I recently (Version 13, I think) changes all the FS detection. It's possible I had something that worked before and didn't get carried over.

I'll get back to you.

John, I've taken a quick first look at the issue. As I mentioned before, I recall implementing some code to use FSX-SE in place of FSX. That was lost in the revision to version 13 but, even then, it necessitated some manual changes on the part of the user to make it happen.

It's easy to look for and use FSX-SE.CFG if AIFP fails to find FSX. But, if FSX is installed, then if you want to use SE, you've got to fool AIFP into "thinking" FSX is not. Without changing the registry, you can only do this by changing the filename of FSX.exe. Under those circumstances, AIFP will(when I reinstate the code) select FSX-SE.cfg if it exists.

Not sure what this does for you if both FSX and FSX-SE are installed or why you would want AIFP to interface with FSX-SE. But, I can make it happen. Also, it's not clear where FSX-se saves its Simobjects. There's no SimObjects folder in the steam folder. (There is a Steam Simobjects folder in AppData, but it appears to be unused.

Well, I have the simobjects folder in mine. I just copied it over from fsx so I already had all my ai planes and traffic files. The simobjects in the appdata folder appears to be what planes you have flown. I looked at my pmdg 777 mjc d8-q400 and it showed which planes were flown. But I can always do it the old fashion way by replacing the aircraft in the aircraft txt file with the titles from the aircraft.cfg for each plane. That can be time consuming. I did look at the registry and to fine the right one, I don't know.

Hi, John. I have now confirmed that the current release of AIFP contains the FSX-SE-specific code from its predecessor. However, if you've been following this forum, you may know that the latest general release of AIFP has an issue with version selection. This was fixed shortly after release in a development release. So, I suggest you download the latest development release from http://stuff4fs.com. (I expect to make a new general release shortly.)

All that being said, it appears that AIFP never was fully compatible with FSX-SE. I should make it so. But it's going to take a little time and investigation. "Stay tuned."

Having waited for 3 hours of updates to download, I now have FSX-SE running again and understand what must be done to AIFP to make it fully compatible.

As you may have noticed, I've just released 3.1.15. I didn't feel I could hold off any longer, plust adding SE compatibility may introduce some instability. It will be in an early development release for you to test.

Yes, I got it. What I did to get around the installing repaints only to fsx. I moved my simobjects\aircraft to d:\simobjects\aircraft, so both fsx and fsx-se see the aircraft. I changed both cfg files to point to the d:\simobjects\aircraft. It works so far.

John, AIFP Development Release 3.1.15(a) include full support for FSX-SE. When P3Dv3 was introduced, I recoded that area in a manner to facilitate making the necessary changes across my various utilities. As a result, making SE an individually-selectable Target Version was just "more of the same" and, thus, a relatively simple task.

Please check it out and report ANY issues you discover.
