• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Airfiles missing

I am using Vista Ultimate with FSX. I installed SP1, and SP2 for the reason that new aircraft require the SP2 download. When I tried to use one of these Sp2 aircraft, my computer will shut down. Also I no longer can see any airfiles in all aircraft. The error says "air file is damaged".

More info please. Was this a freeware or payware plane? Was it an auto or manual install plane? Did you follow all the install directions? Do you have UAC ( user account control ) turned off in Vista. This is a problem that might be better suited for the web site you got the plane from, than here, but I've given you a place to start.

Adobe has a new program that creates files with *.air extension. I'm not saying this might be your problem, but it may be worth checking?

I don't think that these two issues are related -- the probable reason why you can no longer see air files is that your system is set to hide known extensions, and after installing Adobe Air the .air extension is now 'known', so it doesn't show.

And of course clicking on an air file will now attempt to open it in Adobe Air, which will give an error because it isn't a proper Adobe file. This doesn't mean that it is damaged, and it doesn't affect its performance in FS.

However your shutting-down issue sounds major. I'd check that your video drivers are up to date first.

The free aircraft that started all this was a beautiful Beechcraft B1900D (b19alabx). It loaded okay and when the scenery was checked a popup appeared saying the airfile was damaged and try to get a new one from the applications Author, FSX will close now. Which it did automatically.

I started up FSX again and flew the Cessna 172 with no problems. After landing I quit the first phase of quiting FSX and tried starting the beechcraft 1900D again. It worked fine and I had a good flight.

I am now in contact with Microsoft in hopes the problem will be solved. I have re-installed FSX Deluxe twice now without any updates, after removeing all 3rd party aircraft and still no air files on any FSX aircraft. Frank!

The error sounds like the Adobe Air error message when you attempt to open an airfile from FS rather than an Adobe Air file -- 'The application could not be installed because the AIR file is damaged. Try obtaining a new AIR file from the application author.'
This has nothing to do with FSX -- are you saying that this happens when you start FSX?

No, starting FSX is no problem. Only when I use certain aircraft from Premier Aircraft Design does FSX quit. I can also go into Games/ Microsoft FSX/ simobects/ Airplane/ click on any aircraft and find no air file. It the installer package has the error mesage. Frank!

Thanks toprop: I removed Adobe Air and I now have my air files back. Now I'll go to Premier Aircraft and try it out. Then hopfully let Microsoft know the problem has been solved. Thanks to all envolved. Frank!

As I said earlier, I don't think that your air files disappeared -- I just think that your operating system hides 'known' file extensions, so you'll just see an extensionless file with the name of your aircraft. Removing Adobe Air just makes the extension unknown, so it'll show up again.
