• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Airport data region code

When I select a runway within FSX Planner I see two forms on the left, the bottom one contains runway data and the top one airport data.

In the airport data form I see a text field and textbox named Airport Region or something like that. It is a free form textbox so I don't know whether I can enter just anything here, i.e. Latin America or does it have to be the ICAO region code where where the airport is located (M for the region of an MP region) or if this is something else.

Please clarify.

There are fixed region codes related to areas of the world. They get used to handle conflicts with Idents - you cannot have two navaids with the same ident in the same region. Otherwise I am nost sure what they are used for.

Also not sure what will happen if you enter a random code. It is two characters long

So this should probably be the two letter country icao code. For example EH for airports in The Netherlands, SK for airports in Colombia, etc. right? I was not sure if this was an FSX-world region code (which is different)

I believe that it is an FSX World region code

I have been experimenting with the creation of approaches in FSX Planner and found out the so called Region Code field must be the ICAO region code corresponding to the first two letters of the airports of that country.

The first letter corresponds to an ICAO global region and the 2nd letter identifies a single country within that region. For example region M corresponds roughly to north & central america (don't remember the ICAO map by heart) and P within region M represents Panama. So all airports in Panama with an official ICAO code begin with MPxx: MPTO (Tocumen), MPHO (Howard), MPDA (Enrique Malek, David), etc.

That being known, if I am creating an approach in FSX Planner I should specify MP as region code. I believe this would be the same in ADE because these are only tools that register this information for the FS GPS software.
