• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Airport Design Editor for FS9?

Messages

Hi guys,

I've been using Airport Design Editor for FSX and could not be happier with the program. I've been looking for the version that works with FS9, but can't seem to find it. Every version I download from the site seems to work with FSX exclusively. Can someone post the proper link for the FS9 version?

Here are my questions once I obtain it:

I want to make sure my FSX airports remain intact and editable. Will the FS9 version affect the FSX version and my saved airports?

Is there any way to transfer my airports to the FS9 version without having to redesign them, so they will appear exactly the same in both FS9 and FSX?

Thanks for your help!

ADE9x works with both. It opens different versions, so files aren't mixed. You'll have to do a certian amount of re-editing between versions.

Hello Bobbyjack,

That's the version I thought I downloaded, but when I went to set paths for the FS9 files, they were locked as "n/a". The program also doesn't mention working with FS9 anywhere. I tried looking at the older available versions, but still can't find one that specifically mentions FS9 compatibility.

Did you try to set paths in the New User Wizard or in the Environment Checker? Are you sure you have all the files you need for both sims? I have both sims hooked into ADE on W7.

The Environment Checker has all FS9 fields marked n/a, and will not let me manually enter the FS9 file location. The new user wizard in the program only acknowledges FSX. I create gmax models and insert them into FS9 regularly, so I believe that I have all the necessary files.

I am running Airport Design Editor 9x Version 1.47.7.0.

The problem is that your registry entries for FS9 are not correct. Both ADE and the Environment Checker look in the registry for the FS9 entries. If none are found then it assumes that there is no FS9. First you should try and fix the registry entries. There is a tool here http://www.tweakfs.com/store/free_tools.php Look for the FS9 Registry Editor. Run this and then run the Environment Checker. If FS9 is found then ADE should also offer it. If not then the problems can be solved another way - but try that first.

There is a tool called FSX2FS9 that we released recently. This will generate a FS9 compatible bgl from an FSX one. You may then load that into ADE9. To get a full project file you will also need to import some stock data. Again when you get to that point we can give you the details

Hello scruffyduck,

I just found another thread where you mentioned global.ini, and after inserting this file into the ADE folder, everything worked great.

I can't tell you what a huge asset this program has been. Thanks!

OK - that is the fall back solution. However I would strongly recommend trying to fix the FS9 registry entries since a number of applications look for these.
