• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FS2004 Airport Modification [Flatten, autogen exclude]

A few days ago I installed the latest version of ADE being ADE9X. Many thanks to all who help bring this program to FS9.

Please see my signature for my system Specs.

I have read all three tutorials at the ADE website http://www.airportdesigneditor.co.uk/Tutorials.html and the documentation that came with ADE9X. I also read the online help at the ADE website. None of them tell me how to create a flatten for FS9.

The program is running correctly.

I have modified my first airport 64FA.

I added one runway and lengthened one of the others. The runway I added now has a terrain issue. When you taxi over it the runway is below the terrain ever so slightly.

How do I create a flatten in ADE9X for FS9?

I also need to remove some Autogen from the end of the one runway. It is not on the runway just close enough to be in the way to land.

How do I use ADE9X to exclude Autogen for FS9.

Is ADE9X the right tool to create flattens and exclude autogen?

What I really could use is a good tutorial on building a airport from scratch.

Is there one out there?

Thanks for your Guidance

Hi,

While those are things ADE can do in FSX, it cannot yet do them in FS9 (and won't anytime soon, I believe).

To exclude Autogen I use ExcBuilder2, selecting the Exclude All choice.

To flatten runways, place an apron underneath the runway, just smaller than the runway itself so it's hidden underneath. Also, make sure the elevation of the runway is set to that of the rest of the airport.

Hope this helps,

Sbuilder is good for creating flattens, changing landclass, applying polygons. Use this along with ADEX9.

Thanks both tgibson and TB111 that is exactly what I wanted to know.

Of course its been a year since I messed around with Sbuilder so I had to find a tutorial and I found the perfect one at Flightsim.com

It is by Scott Smart and the file name is apttutv1.zip

I have my flatten created and in the process I defined a poly that fixed my autogen issue.

Now back into ADE9X to design my airport

Scott is also one of the ADE team members. As we move ADE9 to the future his knowledge in the use of Sbuilder will help Jon with the coding for the FS9 type polys and excludes.

Like Tom posted it still may be further into the future but we have looked at that part of FS9. Tom is also part of the ADE Team and his knowledge in FS9 airport design over the years help to get ADE9 where it is at today.

I too need help with ADE Airport elevations

I modified my home airport (KCRQ) with ADE9x for FSX.

There's some type of definition that came with the "stock" airport that defines the boundries of the airport area.

I have tried everything to change the airport's boundries, but can't seem to figure it out!

HELP !

Thanks for the kind words, Jim. But Jim is probably the person who has brought ADE to where it is today - other than Jon of course!! Thanks to both of you, and all the other hard working people too (like Scott).

My first post at FSDeveloper.com after being a member for more than a year and I am get help from people who I consider to be FS VIPs I am humbled.

Thank you everyone involved.

Dave

Hi all,

Great piece of info above, actually I was going to 'thread' the same. SBuilder seems great but the flatten part for FS2004 seems to be omitted from instructions.
Also it is great that we are focusing on FS2004. With all respect to FSX, I feel FS4 has lot of advantages and fewer of unnecessary complexities.

Thanks to all
Peter

I highly recommend the above cited tutorial by Jim Vile as a reference for use with FSX and P3D. :teacher:

Please note: "direct linking intended to Search / Highlight" does not work at FSDEV, so here is a 'proper' updated link URL for that thread:

https://www.fsdeveloper.com/forum/threads/landclass-visibility-problem.15173/

As this thread may be found in searches for Scott Smart's APTTUTV1.ZIP tutorial by FS2004 (aka "FS9") users, I attached that ZIP below.

Airport Background Tutorial.pdf

Please note that this earlier tutorial by Scott Smart uses using SBuilder 2.05 for FS2004.

Note as well, that Scott Smart also wrote "a follow-on to APTTUTV1.ZIP":

FSX SBuilderX Tutorial v1.pdf

I also attached that ZIP below.

Many thanks to both Scott Smart and Jim Vile, as well as Helli Hauck, for their efforts to help us better understand and use ADE. :pushpin:

And of course, many thanks are due to Jon Masterson (aka "scruffyduck") for all his work developing ADE for so many years. :wizard:
