• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.

Another SDK installation problem

Hello guys,

I'm sorry to troube you, but I couldn't find an answer neither throughout the forum nor in the wiki.

I've got
Win XP Pro SP3
FSX Deluxe (English), SP2

I have successfully installed both RTM SDK and SP1A, but when I try to run SDK SP2 it goes to about 100% then says it is rolling back the installation process, after that it says that installation was finished before it was completed and SDK was not installed.

I have no idea what to do. Please advise!

Here is my ADE report:

The report is telling you the FSX SDK SP2 is already installed.

See if the fsxsdk.chm file confirms this is the sdk SP2.

You may need to run the ConfigSDK.exe to adjust the paths.

Hi Folks

Ilya -
The report is telling you you have -
- FSX game SP2 - 10.0.61472.0 - Which language version ?
- FSX SDK SP1 - 10.0.61355.0 - English language version.

You may need to uninstall SDK SP1
and install the Russian language specific version 10.0.61357

Then install SDK SP2.

Previously FSInsider contained a link to the Russian language specific version 10.0.61357,
but it's since disappeared when they migrated bits to the ESP MSDN site.

There may be an error report in your event log,
and there will be a log file in your temp directory.

PS
You'll also need to reconfigure
your decimal seperator as a fullstop, not a comma.

That's the problem, Dick! I know that I can confirm by looking for this file, but I don't have such a file anywhere!

Well, I've done that, but it doesn't seem to be a big help if the SDK was not properly installed.

It's original ENGLISH RETAIL, Paul. I mean English Retail Deluxe + separate English SP1 + separate English SP2.

I know that there is a Russian version, but I don't think it's applicable to me, because I have English FSX Deluxe only. I never used any versions of FS except English.

Okay, thanks! I'll take a look.

That's a good thought! What do you mean by "fullstop"? Do you mean a "period"?

I've also found out that after a few minutes of flight in FSX it tells me that there is a Simconnect error occurred and FSX needs to be restarted :( Also, no tools appear in FSX in-flight menu.

I have just changed the "," decimal separator to the "." and given it a try. Still the same.

It looks like this. At first, installation starts normally, than I see these two screens (the attachments; that progress bar rolls from right to left).

The event log says:

Code:
Product: Microsoft Flight Simulator X SP2 SDK -- Setup failed.
Filename: msi.dll
Source: MsiInstaller
Error ID: 11708

I also attach a log file which I've created with the msiexec /i key.
I have no idea what to look for, so I will highly appreciate if someone points me out the source of the error.

Hi Ilya.

Paul is right... my mistake. Your ADE check is telling you you are using the SDK sp1.

I think uninstalling all the SDKs via the control panel, and then reinstalling them in order may work.

Dick

Hi Folks

Ilya -
11708 is a permissions error.

Go back to your event log,
and in that report
there's a clickable URL at the bottom.

Click it,
and the MS Help and Support Center will tell you
specifically where the problem lies
and how to resolve it.

PS
Just a guess -
Had you previously installed the SDK elsewhere ?
Possibly to E:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Microsoft Flight Simulator X SDK\ ?

Did you uninstall that correctly,
or just delete the foldertree ?

I tried. It opened the MS Support Center website which told me it could not find the answer.

Negative, sir. I never installed FSX SDK on that PC.

Anyway, thanks for your replies. I'll be there in a few hours and will try to make a full reinstall as Dick suggests.

Hi Folks

Ilya -
Sorry about this -

Go back to event log,
look at error immediately prior to that 11708,
it should be the causative.

Hi guys,

I've tried everything I could find and imagine.

1) I've changed permissions for the volume for Full Access to everybody;
2) I've tried to install from imbedded Administrator account (though my working account has administrative privileges);
3) I've set "Always install with elevated privileges" for Windows Installer using the Group Policies Object (for both User Configuration and PC Configuration, as it should be);

Paul, I didn't find anything meaningful prior to that error in the event log :(

I will now try to make a full reinstall. Hope it will not screw up my FSX installation.

I'm ready to give up :(

Hi Folks

Ilya -
Just taken a look at your log file.
and pretty sure I've found the issue.

The rollback occurs when attempting the SxS install.

Looking prior to that,
your already installed Visual Studio runtime (VC.80 50727.3053),
is newer than that of the SDK version.

However
yours lies in the range of faulty version MFC dls,
(affects any versions between v870 - v3078 inclusive).

Quick check of a different symptom,
which should confirm this -
- Fire up FSX.
- Click Missions.
- Select any MS default mission from the list.
- Click the "Go To Briefing" button.
Expecting FSX to CTD.

If it CTDs, please see FSDeveloper - Wiki - Missions CTD
I'll make that article generic later, (it's not solely limited to Missions).

Apply VC runtime.
Then try applying SDK SP2.

Paul,

It doesn't crash to the desktop - I have tried different default missions.

I have also tried to follow your link anyway to install the VC++
Well, I'm not sure how it should work, but I've downloaded the VC package and run it. The installer window has appeared, then the progress bar has run a few times from 0 to full and then there were nothing... I mean no message like "Installation complete" or something... Should it be like this?

I suppose it is wrong because SP2 still doesn't install.

I have made a more detailed log with GPO. This forum will not let me upload it (it's 367 kb in size), so I have uploaded it to my FTP:
http://rampage.ru/ilya1502/Temp/MSI9d3e.zip

I'm looking through it by myself now, but I'm not sure I'm proficient enough to understand everything.

I'm very sorry for so much trouble :(

It's DONE!

:D:D:D:D:D

I have installed it!

I just have made a last attempt. I've removed all the SDK, every Visual C++ package, and MSXML Parser SPs I had down to the scratch, then installed only required ones and then installed the SDK again. And it has succeeded!!!

Paul, I thank you for your help, support and dedication!
If you ever happen to be in Saint-Petersburg, Russia, please, drop me a PM prior to your visit - I owe you a couple of good beers and a flight in our training center! :)

Hi Folks

Ilya -
Congrats, and no worries,
your own persistance paid off.
Now the fun/hard work begins.

re: Saint-Petersburg
I've always fancied visiting,
so if I ever make it over there,
I'll take you up on that. :D
