• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Asphalt runway edge line question

I was working with an asphalt runway tonight and could not eliminate the runway edge lines by unchecking the appropriate block
on the "Markings" tab. The only blocks that are checked are Rwy Center Line, Rwy Threshold Lines and Rwy Ident. And yet ADE
compiles Rwy edge lines. Does anyone know a remedy for this or is this perhaps normal behavior based on the other details I
have selected (mentioned above).
Thank you,
Ken

Without seeing the file you are working on, this can occur if there is another airport layout file for the same airport still being seen by FSX.

This can be checked in ADE by using the "File Priority Analyzer" tool in the "Tools" menu.

Thank you for the tip. I opened the airport in ADE and opened the File Priority Analyzer tool.
I have not used his tool before and found it very interesting. It showed two layers > the
layer I created with ADE for the Addon scenery folder; and what appears to be the FSX
"Stock" scenery layer. I temporarily disabled the Stock layer and recompiled / saved the
airport, but the Edge Lines were still present (then re-enabled the stock layer ~:)
Attached are some screen caps to illustrate .......

OK so one thing is ruled out.
Did a quick test - created modified NTKF - changed runway to Asphalt - marking settings as per yours.
No edge lines. Suggest try starting again from the Stock airport.

Elsmoko it looks like the edge lines in your image are made with a ground polygon. Stock runway edges don't have black enhancements they are just white lines. ADE's file priority analyzer tool is only looking for airport files and will not find a ground polygon file. This ground polygon file can be in any active scenery folder in your FSX install.

Ed,
I agree that the edge lines look as if they could be "Custom Ground Lines" or a "Custom Ground Poly". I do not understand the idea that the lines come from "a ground polygon file" which could be "in any active scenery folder"?

Elsmoko,
have you tried to apply any Custom Ground Lines or Polys?

Many thanks for your ideas on this Ray and Ed. I will try your suggestion Ray. and follow up here.

I deleted the files and started again with default airport. Still have the Rwy edge lines.
Don't know where to begin looking for problem poly / file. I wonder if something
in Orbx is causing this. Not a huge deal, but I like to know why stuff happens ~:)

I am no expert in this but there are regular entries in this forum where the installation of Orbx causes unexpected problems with airport layouts.

Do the 'edge lines' appear irrespective of which surface you use for the runway? Are they there if you open the stock version of the airport in FSX?

elsmoko a ground polygon is simply a flat model that gets converted into a "ground polygon" and FSX then projects it on top of any other surface including runway textures. Since you have Orbx this is most likely where the edge lines are coming from. Somewhere in your FSX install are one or more files with the name Orbx used that end in .bgl. This file or files have to be in scenery folder to be read by FSX. As long as FSX reads this file or files then the edge lines will appear. Microsoft developed "ground polygons" as a way to add this kind of detail to an airport.

Try doing a search for any files with NTKF, from your route FSX folder. make sure your search is for *NTKF* and it will more than likely return a file within the ORBX directories. Within my ORBX file system I have a file named "ABP_NTKF.BGL" which is a flatten file. Otherwise do you have any other airport scenery for this airport.
