• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

I took a stadium light and removed the pole. Great! Now I want to attach a light effect into each of 9 bowls. It looks like it works but nothing exports. What am I doing wrong? Here is my Gmax model.hangerlightboxes Please check the reply below. After a few hours of click this click that I was able to get what I wanted done in Gmax and I thought I had actually figured how to do something in it without help. Now.......

I was able to decipher how to attach the effects to the modified light fixture with 8 bowls with the FSX Attach Tool. The effect looked like a beacon NOT what I wanted so after much frustration trying to change it in Gmax
that I just don't like to work with, I opened up the mdl in MDCx and successfully changed the 8 effects and exported a bgl. The bgl was successfully loaded into the airport in ADEx. The light effects look great, like real bulbs BUT there is no illumination of the hanger interior at all. How if possible can I do that with MDCx NOT Gmax and certainly 3DSmax neither of which do I consider user-friendly whatsoever. Everytime I tried to attach in Gmax it tells me to create an editable mesh. OK I figured out how to do that or not by rightclick modifying the object but when I go back to attach the effect it says the same thing again. Why was it not converted to an editable mesh. I did it yesterday. Now its a new day and it won't work or I;m not clicking something after I click the editable mesh convert to tab. That is why I am so disgusted with it all. Thank you by the way for letting me vent my frustration. It's really maddening. Also last question. Everytime I want to attach an effect with the FSX tool Gmax can't find the effect file and I have to go through a bunch of screens. Where in the options or preferences do I tell it where that is once and for all.

After much work today, I was able to merge the light fixture I created in Gmax into the Hanger. THEN I found a post here about the light "splash" one of the responses provided a Gmax file of a lamp with a splash on the ground. I was able to open it in Gmax and delete the lamp pole just leaving the ground splash. Wow is that great? Not quite I downloaded it as an FSX Mdl and then merged it into the hanger onto the floor with not much trouble. It even worked in FSX but it looked disgusting not what I imagined so I just deleted it and quit trying. FSX does not illuminate the inside of buildings created in Sketchup to my satisfaction at all so I will not waste any more time on it. Close this thread please. Unless someone has a beautiful ground splash that works in FSX they want to provide as an attachment in this post. I might try it again. I am good at merging mdl's in Model Converter X. I also DID learn more about Gmax so it was not a total waste of time.

Why not just include the lighting on the hangar walls in the hangar's night texture?

I downloaded AL Heline's "Creating Night Textures For Scenery" from FSDeveloper by Google and I was able with my Corel Paintshop Pro to create an lm texture for the concrete floor that lights it up beautifully in MDCx although I can't light up the walls because the same texture is used inside AND out and the outside looks stupid. I may this next week play with that and see if I can retexture the inside walls and that way I will have illuminated the inside as well. I am also going to see if I can illuminate the inside of the terminal this way, too. If that works, I am going to see about my KMBL terminal as well. I appreciate your answering. You have helped me out a lot in the past and I am sure I will be asking for help with something else here in the future. HAPPY NEW YEAR

Richard
