• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSXA Attachpoints a clearer understanding

I have a couple of questions on attach points that I would like clarified.

I just finished adding arrestor cables to an object and it works however I could not find any clear instructions on how to add them as an attach point. So I used the next best thing and punted with logical assumptions (which maybe you should not use in FSX :D ).

The SDK says attachpt_cable_X_X is the attach point name so I used an empty attach point and used the names below to attach to my object.

Code:
veh_carrier01_high_detail_sm attachpt_cable_1_1
veh_carrier01_high_detail_sm attachpt_cable_1_2
veh_carrier01_high_detail_sm attachpt_cable_2_1
veh_carrier01_high_detail_sm attachpt_cable_2_2
veh_carrier01_high_detail_sm attachpt_cable_3_1
veh_carrier01_high_detail_sm attachpt_cable_3_2
veh_carrier01_high_detail_sm attachpt_cable_4_1
veh_carrier01_high_detail_sm attachpt_cable_4_2

The strange thing is when I clicked attach to geometry it changed the name to attachpt_attachpt_cable_1_1_2. The the second one became attachpt_attachpt_cable_1_2_3.

I did not think this right at least on the first part so I went into the object properties and removed the first attachpt_ from the name. I also removed the extra digit at the end.

The end result is this xml code.

***@#$%

Can I stop right here and ask one of my other questions first. Why can I not copy and paste in the User Defined Properties of an object? I can type in the field and delete text but I can not quickly use the simple cut and paste.

Anyway back to the code which I have to enter manually since I can not copy it.

Code:
<FSMakeMdlData version="9.0"> <attachpoint name="attachpt_cable_1_1"> </Attachpoint><FSMakeMdlData>

So I attached cables 1 thru 3 in this manner and I trapped the cables and it worked.

The question is did I do it right or is it just working by chance?

Is the numerical sequence that Gmax is adding to the end of the name important?

Thanks Paul

I had read that wiki but some of the smaller details I missed.

Now I need to resolve a catapult issue

I have my attach point start, end and blast shield in place but I fail to hook up.

The start point is only 45ft from the center of the model so that is not the issue.

I found this post but I don't understand the meaning of (-1,0,0) vector.

Oh.. and BTW, did someone mention that attachpt_catapult_start_n has to be oriented so that its (-1, 0, 0) vector has to go along catapult rail direction?
I wonder what the hell is this for? Couldn't they just calculate the cat_rail direction using both attachpt_catapult_start_n and attachpt_catapult_end_n points? This would quickly give both the rail direction and the cat's length....

The aircraft I am testing with is the default FA18

attachpt_catapult_end_1
X-0.0m
Y-77.49m
Z-18.363m

attachpt_catapult_start_1
X-0.0m
Y-42.512m
Z-18.363m

attachpt_blast_shield_1
X-0.0m
Y-17.184m
Z-18.363m

My key commands are properly set and I added CatapultForceLimiter=0 into my FSX.cfg file. I also tried it set to 1.
