Hi all.
The AVSIM servers have been attacked and as I understand it, may not recover.
The backup scheme was to backup the library data to the forum server, and the forum data to the library server... however both servers were attacked. Both the library and forums are destroyed.
This is a huge loss for the scenery-aircraft designer community, as files and knowledge are now gone. I've also seen this happen to the Sim Outhouse, Netwings, and others, where much info concerning flightsim, CFS2 and CFS1 has been lost in the past.
Perhaps the simple lesson here is that we need to provide full backups offline for forums and libraries... every week at a minimum.
And as developers, we need to backup our utilities, aircraft, and sceneries offline to DVDs or CDs to preserve them for worst-case scenarios. Today would be a good day to do this.
I had many files at AVSIM's library, and used their library often to download utilities from other developers. And their forums were an historical treasure chest of info concerning flightsim, as well as other programs.

Toolmakers and tutorial makers may consider uploading their work here to keep it alive on the web.
AVSIM was the favorite site of many of the old-timers here at FSDeveloper, and we are all saddened by this loss. It was home to countless discussions about scenery design, and provided many of us with deep and lasting friendships centered on our hobby. Thankfully this site still exists to continue those relationships, and to further the hobby.
