• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

No I am not being rude or offensive, but how do you make a ball in SU.

I am thinking in particular of a radar "golf ball"

R

This is in the SU learning center:

1. draw a circle parallel to the ground.
2. draw the circle which becomes the sphere (it has to be right above the first circle)
3. select the first circle
4. click the "follow me" button and click the second circle.
5. place the sphere where you want it.

Hi R.

Youtube has a large amount of info on sketchup:

Create a sphere

That process uses a first circle as a horizontal path, a second circle as a vertical shape, and the followme tool to force the shape to the path.

Thanks guys and job done.

However I have found one small snag.

I can create the sphere no problem but with only a few sides.

When I draw my first circle I enter 250s in the box to give me a smoother outline and then enter 15' to give me my circle size.

I then draw my 2nd circle.

I select the 1st circle.

I select the follow me tool and click on the 2nd circle and then SU freezes and goes into "not responding" mode.

If I do not select 250s or a size then it works fine

??

Hi Richard:

First, a 'bit of Brit' humor:

"Oh Balls" said the Queen; "If I had to, ( 2 ? ) ...I could be King !!!" :rotfl:

<Ahem> All joking aside, you might find these links interesting as additional options for "Geodesic" radar domes (less triangles):

Oh, and this is 1-day 'late' for starting up an intended "Ruby Tuesday" thread in the Sketchup forum, but drop this 'Ruby script' into [Google Sketchup install path]\Plugins folder and re-start Sketchup; then you can tinker with making your own Geodesic domes to your hearts delight: :p

http://modelisation.nancy.archi.fr/RubyLibraryDepot/plugin_details.php?id=156

NOTE: This Ruby script plugin should then be accessible via Sketchup Main Menu > Plugins > "Create Geodesic"

FYI
: There's a whole world of Ruby scripts out there that make Sketchup do things "other" 3-D modeling apps only 'dream' of doing ! :D

Hope this helps ! :santahat:
