• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Been messin' with textured polys...

experimenting... trying to create some good looking grass for the airport. I created some textured polys using SBuilder from some 1024x1024 bmps and they look pretty darn good. But two issues creep up:

1. - I get a "flash" of a solid green color for a split-second as I move about the airport. Like it is refreshing. The best way to describe it is if you have every created Hi-Res photomesh with SBuilder there will be moments as you fly around where the tile pops into view or focus. It sorta looks like that. Is there some relation? Is this a normal reaction for a textured poly? Should I be using a 512x512 bmp for the grass?

2. - I also noticed the poly is always on top of everything else. I can't seem to lower its priority layer. Can u?

thx

It sounds like a problem where the loading of the textures takes a while and then you see the fallback color of the polygon for a while. The easiest fix for this is probably to use a different fallback color, so that the effect is less visible. For example by using a color very similar to the texture you use or by making the fallback color transparant.

Looks like these are SCASM polygons. You can layer them between each other, but they will always show on top of mesh and XML style scenery. Nothing to be done about that.

Yep. Been introducing myself to SCASM and it does appear to be the fallback color you mention about. But if I can see the texture perfectly clear and sharp and I am sitting right next to it, getting great FPS, why would it "fallback" to that?

Is this a common accourance when using textured polys? Or is this an older process method and has a few side effects when using in FS?

I now see this is more of a SCASM issue rather than an SBuilder issue so I will contiue this thread it over to that forum...

Well, I believe I found the problem... and of course it was me! :o I was using 1024x1024 size textures. When I switched to 512x512 the flashing went away.

It's actually possible to use your own textures for VTP Polys in Sbuilder??
Wow, learn something new everyday! :)

Yes, with VTP polygons you can use your own textures (and SBuilder allows you to do this). But the higher resolution textures mentioned here are not VTP, but SCASM based.
