• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Boats and ships

I am hoping for a direct answer here instead of a bunch of message links that I have to read through for hours.

How do you get Boats and other Ships to appear on the lakes that I created in my ADE project? I'm not talking about already made stock airports, I'm talking about a completely fictional home made airport. I have several small and some large lakes around the airport that I would like to add some AI controlled leisure boats and maybe a couple of larger ships onto the lakes. Do you have to do it the same way you would with vehicle traffic by creating vectors? I have the sliders all the way up, but none appear anywhere. Like I said, I need some sort of direct answer and not a bunch of message links that I have to spend all day looking for and reading. I just want to do whatever I need to do without having to spend days or weeks reading a load of messages and hope I find the right answer. This is a Developement Forum that is supposed to help with someone having difficulty getting something to work right? I'm sure someone has figured out how to make it work. I just need to know how.

If you learned how to use AI Aircraft Traffic, you may be within reach of using AI Boat Traffic.

These are all controlled via the 'Traffic' sliders in FSX GUI.

Lamont Clark (aka "lc0277") years ago soon after FSX RTM was released, had web pages that offered numerous very cool tools for use with FSX.

There are discussions here at FSDEV by a few folks what have an interest in how to use Lamont's AI Boat Traffic Compiler utility (aka "AIBTC").

There also occasional threads on this, as well as some scenery and Traffic files at Sim-Outhouse FS-related web forum system (aka "SOH").

Wait for it... OK, here's the links, so you can do what we all have to do here at FSDEV: Read and Learn. :duck:

FYI: We rarely- if ever- take special orders for replies to posts here; such requests typically lead to the poster becoming "flame-broiled".

But maybe you got FSDEV mixed up with Burger King ?

Alternatively, Ron Haertel's Living World utility released with FSX SDK can move / control a few boats via comparatively simple traffic routes.

BTW I got the boats to work, I just had the sliders too low for them to appear. They work fine now. I don't see a lot of them because the project is located in an area that normally don't have sea traffic. I do plan on adding some special "shipping routes" later on that will use some special 'pirate ships' I found on the web, I have to convert them to work with FSX as they were designed for MSFS and not FSX, I've done it before so I know how to convert them to make them work ok, they are AI models so not much needs to be done with them to make them work.
