• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

    Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

    By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Calibration

Hi all, I am having real difficulty in calibrating my FSX screen shot with SBX.
I have taken lats and longs at top left and bottom right and enter these but when I calibrate I get an out of shape [for want of a better word] picture and not a square one as per as I am seeing in FSX.
I do not understand why there are two lots of lats and longs which one do I use. There is North Lat and South Lat and West Long and East long.
If I slew to ther top left and bottom right corners in FSx where do I put the 2 sets of readings.
I am sure this has been covered before but I can't find the info.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Regards
Richard

SBX needs a TXT file to go with the BMP file that it uses to display a MAP, as it's called in SBX. The format is real simple and the coordinates can be gotten from TCalcX. Here's the layout, just plug in the four entries for top, bottom, left and right. Change the TXT file name to match EXACTLY as your BMP file and it should load into SBX.

[GEOGRAPHIC]
Name=Photo01
North=21.1050002753822
South=21.0973130350286
West=-157.313232421875
East=-157.307739257812

Hi Richard,

Just to add a small note. If you can read the north border latitude, the south border latitude, the west border longitude and the east border longitude of you screenshot, then you can create a small file as Lance explained.

If you prefer you can also take 2 points in the picture. If that is the case, they should not be close to each other. Then ,in Sbuilder, you need to introduce for each point, say P1 and P2, the following:

- the X & Y position in the image and its latitude and longitude in the real world.

If the 2 points are the NW corner of your picture and the SE corner then they contain the border values:

- NW latitude = North latitude
- SE latitude = South latitude
- NW longitude = West longitude
- SE longitude = East longitude

and you can go as per Lance explanation.

Luis

Hello guys, sorry but still having problems calibrating a map in SBX.
I have noticed that the lat and long is displayed differently [format] in SBX to that of Tcalc, how do I change, I assume SBX to read the same as Tcalc.

Hi Richard.

In the same folder as SBuilderX.exe should be a file named Builder.ini

Open this file with notepad, and under the [Main] section, make sure it has:

DecimalDegrees=True

==============================================

If you wish FSX to also display decimal degrees, add this to the fsx.cfg, under the [Main] section:

LatLonFormat=Degrees
FractionalLatLonDigits=6

Hi guys,
Have succeeded in calibrating however I still have a problem.
I am using a top down view screen shot as my image. [Gen X scenery] When I draw a poly around my airfield and then translate it into FSX the area covered is way off and in order to cover my airfield I have to extend the poly to a rediculous size in SBX.

Richard

Hi

Hum!!! I have no idea. Please be more descritive!

Kind Regards, Luis

Hi Luis how are you.?
I draw a poly round my airfield to, say, flatten the area.
I select and compile, no problem but when I start FSX the area covered by the poly is way off to where I drew it.
To get the poly to cover the area I have to make the poly much bigger and in the direction that hasn't been covered.
I don't know how else to put it.

Richard

Hello Richard,

It seems that you are using a background map which was built by taking a screenshoot from the sim in top-down view. You need to make sure that the screenshot image is correctly placed as a background map in SBuilder. By using the "Show Aircraft" tool you will compare the position of the aircraft in the sim with the position of small red cross in the SBuilder display. If the positions are not the same (if the lat/lon readings in both fs and sbuilder are not the same) then you must correct the map calibration before going further.

Have tried my small web utility at:

http:/www.ptsim.com/sbuilder/gmaps.htm

? Do you know how to calibarte a map by adding a small text file in the same folder as the map? If so the contents of that small file is shown in the page:

[GEOGRAPHIC]
North=41.59663816589289
South=41.57737908284747
West=-8.462176322937012
East=-8.427844047546387

Hope you can go through it!

Regards,

Luis

Hi Luis,
I have been to ptsim but could not see anything to download.
I'm probably being dumb as usual but could you help me a bit further with this.

Regards
Richard.

Richard,

Did you notice the specific link in Luis' posting? How much more help is needed? You get a site with the Google satellite image and all the location data. It doesn't get any easier than that!

Yea well pardon me for asking but a] the link doesn't work and b] when I go direct, Google will not will not go in close enough as they don't have "imagery at this zoom level for this location "
I assumed that a web utility was something to download.
We are not all as well versed in this sort of thing as others.

"We are not all as well versed in this sort of thing as others."

I come here to learn from those more knowledgable than I am. I utilize the search function, I read through page after page of a sub-forum, all hoping to have it come together for me. I don't make demands of developers to hold my hand along every step of the way, so I run into situations where I have to think it through. Sometimes I make a mental note to come back and tackle it at a later time and move on to something else. But I realize it's up to me to make it work, not the developer. Any any difficulties are usually the result of user-error, not a design flaw. Whether I like to admit it or not...:rolleyes:

Hello I have wird problem with SBX313.
When I add a map from bmp, it uses coordinates from txt file, but "calibration needed window" shows up and although correct coor. the map is in wrong size and shape is always N-S extended.
