• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

FSX Can't get this mainland part rendered

Attached is an experimental SBuilderX 3.13 set of projects, one is for the landclass where I set LC_Grass as underlying landclass for the new islands and LC_Tropical Forest for the mainland peninsula on the left side of the project (West).

The other SBP project is the one that defines the new islands as well as the corrected mainland all within the QMID11 boundaries.

I noticed that if I made my exclude "Exclude All Shorelines" none of the island terrain would show, only their coastlines/shorelines. If I made it "Exclude All Terrain Items" the the island terrain (grass) would show up together with the shorelines.

However, no matter what I have done, I cannot get the "big" chunk of mainland peninsula terrain on the west side to appear. I can see the shorelines I defined for that part but the underlying terrain never shows up, all I get there is water. That part has a tropical rainforest landclass which you can see by loading the _LandClass project.

For your convenience I have also included the scenery/texture of the area covered by these SBP projects as well as the Flight, Weather, Save files (Flight Simulator X Files). It will load the FSX default Maule aircraft (fantastic except for the tail wheel and its terrible ground behaviour) flying about 1000 above these islands. In the start situation you can see the mainland on the right, including a tall mountain as this mesh doesn't seem very accurate. But you can also see, especially if you fly towards that mountain, that before reaching the visible mainland the shorelines of the missing part of the peninsula are seen. What is missing is within the boundaries of the QMID 11 so I didn't make it a "hole" but simply defined it as Tropical Rainforest polygon.

What have I done wrong there that I can't get it to display?

NOTE: Given that the forum keeps on refusing my ZIP file, I have uploaded it to MediaFire:

You have not defined the hydro-poly around the mainland, you have covered the whole of the QMid rectangle with water.

The hydro-poly should follow the arrows shown below:

But that square *is* a Hydro_Generic_Ocean_Perennial and if you look closely in the project you will see that the "missing" Peninsula is actually a polygon marked LC_Tropical_Rainforest.

Should I then remove the rainforest and redraw the hydro around the four corners and around the peninsula? or should I just draw a square hydro polygon (as I have and make the peninsula a "hole" polygon that I can fill with rainforest?

Landclass will apply only over land. You have defined it over water.

The LC poly needs to be "polygon of type none" and "set as hole", then in the class file change what you now have as "128_Grass" to "033_Y_Tropical_Rainforest" and you should be good.

Thanks to all, the issue has been resolved now that I was put in the right direction. As for the underlying landclass, I set the islands landclass as Grass and the mainland as Tropical Rainforest. The reason being that these islands are kind of sandbanks with some grass on it and lots of coconut trees just barely a couple of feet above water.
