• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Hi Guys, What im trying to do is to cover more area per image, what i have been doing is to load a zoom 16 photo which consists of (4X6 tiles at a time) save it to work folder and continue on the same way, however this takes forever to cover a lot of ground, not to mention every inf file per photo has to be edited.

So what i have tryed to do is to take an image of zoom 14 or 15 which gives me more area, then go to add map from background, click on the zoom 16 button which now gives the photo 20X28 tiles at zoom 16. but when i click ok,sometimes i get a portion of the photo sometimes nothing at all and once i got the whole image, so yes ive read every thread in here and have tryed it all with no luck, by the way using the yahoo server. my machine has 3 gigs of ram, i have upped the virtual memory 100,000. I also tryed what someone mentioned about deleting all of the tiles from the tiles folder thinking maybe that was taking some memory. i dont get any error messages from sbuilderx that i ran out of memory. so im not sure if the yahoo server wont give me that many tiles at one shot,or is there any settings that can be changed anywhere or in sbuilderx that may rememdy the problem. like i said i can download zoom 16 photos all day long , buts its tedious work.
any ideas would be greatly appreciated

Thanks best regards.Tom

I believe SBuilderX is a VB.net 2005 program made for x86 processors. As such, it would only use 2GB of memory, regardless the system.

Additionally, .NET programs have their own memory garbage disposal which might cause problems. And the UNDO feature may also cause memory problems.

Luis is working on a new version of SBX that may have a more robust tile collection method, so viewing in zoom14, and gathering at zoom16, may be more reliable.

There is also a new GetTiles program that will help by gathering tiles in the manner of GetBackground does now.

Hi Dick

Hi Dick, thanks for the reply, well i figured out what i was doing wrong, there was a small topic on it in ptsim. I did not realize that if you want to have the zoom 16 size tiles, in a zoom 15 image size that you have to scroll across the whole area you want at zoom 16 first so that it puts all the tiles at that zoom level into the sbuilderx tiles folder. then you can go back into sbuilderx and bring up a zoom level 15 background then do the add map from background, and click on the zoom 16 button which will put all of the zoom 16 tiles into the zoom 15 background. then you will have the zoom 15 image size with the zoom 16 tiles in it. i know you know this but i thought i would write this all out in easy to understand terms so in case someone else runs into this situation they will understand how to do it.

One other thing if you might know, Luis Sa mentioned also about a tile downloader tool to help with this type of thing, and i clicked on the link he gave but it just brought me to a registration page that was in spanish, so i could not find that tool, and im registerd with ptsim to use the forums so i dont know if this is some other place you need to register to get the tool download, any info on that would be helpful, thanks again,Best regards,Tom

Here's where to find the GetBackground program for SBuilderX:

http://www.ptsim.com/sbuilderx/getbackground.zip

Unzip and place it in the SBuilderX root folder, and then you can run it.

It's pretty self explanitory.

The downoaded tiles will be placed in the appropriate SBuilderX tile folders, and can be used when SBuilderX is restarted. This eliminates the need to scan your area at the zoom level in SBuilderX, as the tiles will already be present.

Caution... the tiles will multiply like rabbits, eating up your disk space. Download only the area and zoom needed, and consider cleaning out the folders ( and defragging ) when done with them. No sense in keeping them. The whole world would be terrabytes of images.
