Changing the reference point for a object

Hello,
I am preparing a collection of stairs for Rwy12, that were originally part of an 8m chopper tower.
My thought is to have them be modular so that many different configurations can be used.
My problem is that when I place them with Rwy12, they are placed in relation to where they were originally attached to the tower.

In this image, the X is where I would like to have the reference point, so that I can place it adjacent to another set of stairs.
On other variants the safety cable would be missing at a different positions, so the X and reference point would change. Of this staircase I have 3 variants with openings and a viewing platform with no openings.

I had asked the question of how to change the reference point in another forum and was answered:

"The easiest way to do this is to move the pivot point (the crosshairs that move the object) to the center of the object - or wherever you want the reference point to be, and then set your x,y,z coordinates to 0,0,0.

To move the pivot point, just select the Heirarchy tab form the UI at the right and then select Adjust Pivot and drag the point to your desired location."

I'm not sure what version he has but mine has a lot more options than just Adjust Pivot, and I'm not sure of what he meant by the "crosshairs" that move the object, nor how to move it to where the X in my image is.

Any thoughts?

Hi,

I think it would even be easier to just move your objects. The reference point is the 0,0 point in GMax, so if you just move your objects around till the 0,0 point is at the location you want, you can set the reference point much easier I think.

Hi Arno,
I will see if i can sort that out.
Thank you.

Best Regards / Gary
