• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Closing Runways

Hey everybody!

I am trying to close one end of a runway for landings, and the other end of the same runway for takeoffs. I go the the runway option and check the corresponding 'close runway for takeoff/landing' boxes. I hit 'ok', compile the airport, and I load up FSX, and the changes did not take place.

I went back to ADE, opened up the runway, and found the 'close runway for takeoff/landing' boxes that I checked now unchecked. I tried again and the same thing happened twice. Is it not possible for this to be created? That is the only reason I can think of why ADE unchecked those boxes automatically.

Any ideas?

Even if ADE allows closing the runway the way you have selected FSX will not honor one end open and one end closed. There are options allowed for certain open/closes but each airport differes slightly based on other available runways and the score process in affect.

Airports must have parallel runways or crosswind runways before additional closing and open of runways will be honored. Each individual airport must be evaluated to see what will or will not work.

Can you tell us what airport and what runways you are trying to open/close?

I might also mention that it is impossible to setup a head to head runway in FS2004 or FSX.

i.e. Rwy 15 for all landings and Rwy 33 for all takeoffs - the real world configuration of KASE for most aircraft

We can take the example from the default EDDF where Rwy 18 is open for takeoffs and landings, but Rwy 36 is closed for both - in both FS2004 and FSX.

Also Rwy 26L/08R - the invisible runway under 07R/25L at EDDF is setup the same way for landings and takeoffs only on 26L - yes there actually was / is a real world Rwy 26L setup for a special landing procedure for EDDF.

But as Jim notes - those are special cases which have to be evaluated and worked out on an individual airport basis. A lot of 'standard rules' seem to be broken by those airport setups. Quite frequently they will require manual changes in the XML code.
