• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Connecting FSX Planner to FSX: The solution

At least my solution! I really hope this works for people like me that have been looking for ONE post with the answer!

I figured this out through months of surfing these posts and threads so I want to compile what I have and put it all together in one post.

This is for those that have tried everything!

Im using Vista, BTW!

DO NOT OPEN FSX PLANNER OR FSX UNTIL MENTIONED LATER!

1st of all, you should have the alternate simconnect.xml file in both the c:\program files\zbluesoftware\fsx planner folder and the c:\user\xxxx\appdata\roaming\microsoft\fsx folder (where xxx is the user name). Need the alternate file? Get it here: http://www.zbluesoftware.com/fsxplanner/simconnect.zip

I have not seen a post that says that

2ndly Assuming you have tried the local connection and local connection with specifing the port to no avail, lets try to connect using REMOTE CONNECTION... Yes I know, EVERY PIECE of documentation on this application says the remote connection option is if you are running FSX here and FSX Planner over there. But lets try it any way, just for giggles...

You will need to know your computer's IP address.. how?
-Start
-All Programs
-Accessories
-Command Prompt
-at command prompt type: ipconfig
You should see a line that says IP Address, you may see a couple IP Address lines depending on whats happening on your PC... use the first one. Write this number down or leave the command prompt window open.

The next 2 steps require this side note:

In Vista you will need to have permission to edit AND SAVE .xml files. You accomplish this by:
-right click on file name (simconnect.xml)
-properties
-security
-edit
-click the Users line
-place check mark in "Full Control"
-Apply
-OK

Next edit the simconnect.xml file located in the c:\user\xxxx\appdata\roaming\microsoft\fsx folder. On the line that says <Address> type the IP address you wrote down or is displayed on your command prompt screen

note the port number... DONT CHANGE IT*

Next edit the simconnect.xml file located in the c:\program files\zbluesoftware\fsx planner folder. On the line that says <Address> type the IP address you wrote down or is displayed on your command prompt screen

should be the same port number as the other .xml, if not CHANGE IT TO MATCH*

Now open FSX - go to desired airport, make sure your at a gate and not on the runway!

Open FSX Planner - open desired airport (assuming you already know how to do this!). Click on FSX Connection Status (latest release). Choose Remote Connection. Put the IP Address from the command prompt and your simconnect.xml's in. Put the port number in and click connect.

This should work. I have Norton Suite and its is running with firewalls and all. Please if this works for thos of you that have been having difficulties, please post a message here.

This post is rather long, but it serves the purpose.. from beginning to end. I am an administrator in the IT dept at work, i know from first hand experience... programmers and developers do not have the patience to type all of this.

Once again, i hope this helps!

I have several applications that connect to FSX with no problems or intervention. I cannot do an FSD auto-connect/port selection. What is the unique characteristic/need of FSD in this situation?

FSX Planner offers several way to connect to FSX. This is because there are many different configurations that could be employed by the user (ie FSX and Planner one the same machine; FSX on one machine and Planner on another; various firewalls, etc). So this thread shows one way that can work for people who are having problems using other methods, such as auto-detect to connect to FSX.

Thanks, I could not connect locally (FYI I have windows on a c:/ drive and FSX on E:/ drive), but remotely worked with me.

Still not working

I've tried this several times - still not able to connect. Any other suggestions?

I open first whisplacer.
With cmd "netstat -b" I spy the used port number.
Close whisplacer, open FSX planner and enter the port number.
Good luck...

You could have posted this weeks ago when I started looking at FSX Planner!!

Cheers! This worked a breeze first time of following!:D

Now to start!

Thanks a lot, this works.
I have Vista ultimate and FSX
The local connection works only when you remove the simmconect.xml from C:\Documents and Settings\[user]\Application Data\Microsoft\FSX. and switch of the user account.
Your way is much saver.
I am now able to move the plane from FSX planer. I work with two monitors, one for FSX Planer and one for FSX.
I expected that I could see in FSX the changes I do with FSX Planer “online”. For example I add a new taxi way sign, place it in front of my plane and can see it in FSX windows how it looks like, but this is not the case.
I can see my changes only when I shut down FSX, compile to bgl and restart FSX again.
Does anybody know what I do wrong?

Thanks a lot for you help.

Stefan

No it is not possible to see the changes as you do them. FSX will only read your revised bgl file once it is re-loaded. You must also make sure that FSX is not running (or at least not displaying the airport you are working on) when you make a compile. The bgl file will not be updated but you will also get no warning that it did not work.

FSX Folder??

have been reading these posts as being new the FSX Planner, I can't connect to FSX. The solution mentions "c:\user\xxxx\appdata\roaming\microsoft\fsx folder.
There isn't a FSX folder in on my PC in that location. I'm using Vista Home Premium with FSX and FSX being on a separate hard drive to the OS. DOes this make a difference?

Mal- That folder is invisible by default (as it is a system folder- Youll need to change your folder options so that you can see system files and folders)

Here is my solution (after a LOT of messing around!)- Im using Vista and wireless router which seems to have made finding my port a bit harder!

Follow seanPaul76s' instructions above to get your IP address. To be more specific, the line "IPv4 Address" contained my IP address. Keep the cmd window open.

Follow the rest of the instructions and input your IP address into the two simconnect.xml files and save.

Start FSX and FSX planner and input the same IP address into the connection box. Here is where I got stuck- Nowhere obvious was my port number noted so I couldn't connect. Here's how I found it:

In the command prompt again, type: netstat -an

You will see a whole list of your open connections

Find the line with your IP Address AND a 'LISTENING' status (i.e. TCP 10.1.1.3:139 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING)

The number after the IP address is the port (in my case 139)

Input this into the port box of the FSX Planner connection box....and hopefully it will work!

Cheers

This post certainly helped me connect. Thank you. Looks like FSXP is the tool to use for any AFCAD related work.

Mal,
Sorry for the very long delay in getting back to you. I hope you figured it out.. but if not..

The file mentioned is a hidden folder. In order to access hidden folders you have to "Sho hidden files and folders." You can do this by going to:

1)Start
2)Control Panel
3)Folder Options
4)"View" tab and check "Show hidden files and folders"
5)Apply and close

at this point the file mentioned above should be visable.

Please note the "xxxx" in the above file name is whatever you named your computer or your computer user name.

Hope this helps!

Almost there...

Find the line with your IP Address AND a 'LISTENING' status (i.e. TCP 10.1.1.3:139 0.0.0.0:0 LISTENING)

The number after the IP address is the port (in my case 139)

I did this in addition to the OP's instructions and I finally got a dialog saying the connection to FSX was successfully established. YAY!!

But then when I closed it and tried to view my plane nothing happened. So I opened the Connection Status window and it said it was disconnected. So I reconnected, again with no apparent problem, but I noticed the little connection status indicator at the bottom status bar did not change from disconnected to connected. Yet the window says I'm connected. When I close and reopen the Connection Status window, it says I'm disconnected.

FSX Planner connect problem

Using Windows XP

Have FSX Planner R28 installed

Have Simconnect.xml in FSX folder.

Problem:
Open Options Connect Window and click Connect. It says
CONNECTED, click Close.

I have no "Move Cursor To FSX Plane" or "Move FSX Plane To Icon"
options.

Open Options Connect Window again, says I am DISCONNECTED.

????????????????????

Anyone seen this problem.

I had FSX Planner working before Hard Drive change.

Thanks in Advance for any Help
