• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Converting FS98 gauges to XML

Unless I'm mistaken, "FS98" style gauges are gauges programmed in C (or C+, C++) and compiled.

IF there were to be a utility to, in essence, decompile the programmed gauges into XML, would that not open up the gauge for use by anyone?

I'm thinking in particular of payware gauges, and especially new gauges being developed.

The only "method" that will work is to extract all the bitmaps from the existing gauge, then use the new XML GUI Program Tool to use those bitmaps and program an XML equivalent.

There's certainly nothing "automatic" about the process; it does involve work... ;)

I was mistaken about an FS98-to-XML conversion utility being in the works. I re-read another thread on this site where I thought it was mentioned, and realized I had misunderstood it the first time around.

Extracting the graphics from existing gauges and re-programming the gauges in XML isn't really what I need to do. I already have a set of gauges that I created for an FS9 aircraft - by bringing the Jet Ranger's gauges into FS Panel Studio and creating new bitmaps for them. These gauges don't show up when I bring the aircraft into FSX. So what I'm looking for is a way to take my custom bitmaps and create FSX-compatible gauges from them.
