• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Copy & paste objects in Gmax ?

Hi, during early modeling experiences at the moment, I am missing the simple copy & paste function. I have one object and have to copy it several times.
Without copy & paste its a hard job.

Is this function available in Gmax ?

Thanks for your help

Arne

PS: Searching in the forum here was not giving me any answer.

yes, its very easy. Select the move tool, and "move" the object holding the shift key. Voila.

You'll be prompted to select "copy", or "instance" or "reference". If you want the clone to remain identical to the original regardless of what changes you'll make in the future, select instance. If you want some options on the stack to remain identical, but need to make additional entries into the stack, like a new "edit poly", select "reference". If you want the clone to be independent from the original, select "copy".

The edit drop down also contains the command "clone" if you are more inclined to use drop downs.

As stated above, if you forget this technique you can also use the Edit/Clone menu item. It will bring up the same dialog box.

Hope this helps,

Obviously this method doesn't copy to the clipboard of the operating system. Is there any way of getting parts of a model from one project to another? I just started drawing part of an airport building as a new project, then realised it would be easier if it were part of the joined concourse. Right now it looks as if I have to start again.

Select only the objects you want to transfer to a new project.
Perform a "Save Selected" to a new filename.
Close the current scene, and begin a new scene.
Merge the previously "Save Selected" file into your new scene.

Hi,

If you know the part names, just File/Merge, choose the other project (as is), and then choose the parts you need to merge into your current project. No need to Save Selected in that case. I do use Save Selected when I need to merge a large number of parts that would be difficult to remember, though.
