• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Copying coordinates

Is there any way to quick store and retreive coordinates in Gmax? For eaxmple, I'm tidying up a model and getting rid of unneccesary polygons by welding vertices together. This currently involves using notepad to copy down the coordinates of the vertex I want to keep, welding two vertices together, then moving the resultant vertex back to the position I'd noted down. This works, but it isn't exactly elegant.

Is there an easier way to do it?

Why not use the vertex snap functionality and then just move the vertices on to each other until they snap? That is much easier then typing in the coordinates I would say.

Old thread I know....but is there a way to copy the vertex coordinates and apply them to another polygon vertex so they snap on top of one and another?

I don't know of an automated way, but the way I do it (when I don't use Arno's method or just Target Weld):

1. Edit Mesh modifier/Vertex sub-object.
2. Click on the vertex where you want the other vertex to move to, to select it.
3. Right click the Move button along the top of the screen.
4. Write down the 3 numbers in the left column.
5. Click red X.
6. Click on the vertex to be moved.
7. Right click on the Move button
8. Type in the numbers you wrote down in step 4
9. Move the highlight to another box, and the vertex will snap to the first vertex's position.

Hope this helps,

Thanks Tom. This was the default solution of course where we just type in the coords.

I was looking for a solution where the coords could be copied on to the clipboard and then copied on to the other vertex.

Any reason that Arno's Snap To Vertex method won't work for you?

Actually it does when there is a single vertex. Just looking for an alternative when say the line is a curve.
