• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Create background bitmap

I wanted to add a background bitmap for my new airport project and have the following questions:

1. There is a checkbox that says "visible in Flight Simulator", does that means that my background bitmap can actually show as part of the scenery? how does it mixes with the scenery BGL that is already in place for that area?

2. I found the "Create Background" page on the FSX Planner site, very good in giving important info (LAT/LON of top left, bottom right) but then what good is it if you can't save it? can't do PRINT SCREEN because the image is too big to fit in the monitor In the page info I found some 56 tiles from Google Earth but then the coordinates given are not very useful anymore :(

Any ideas how to deal with that? This tool seems very promising, tried several others but they all let me crippled.

The background images used in FSX Planner do not show up in the sim. They are used in FSX Planner only as a convenient way for you to accurately place objects.

You need to get a tool like SnagIt to copy and save the image from the web browser. (There is a 30 day free trial of SnagIt availale from their website.) Once you have the background image that you like in the main window, you click the 'New Window' button and a new window that contains only the background image will be displayed. Then with SnagIt (or other similar tool) you can save the image, even if it is larger than your monitor.

You also need to copy the combined lat/lon coordinates - just that one line. In FSX Planner you can paste that combined lat/lon info into the appropriate field in the Manage Background Images dialog once you select your saved image that SnagIt created.
