• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Creating a simple lake

I'm having trouble. Whenever I try to create a lake a get a body of water that extends forever.

Anyway, I want to add Lea Lake of Bottomless State Park to FSX

33.318622 -104.330221

I draw the polygon on Google Earth. In FSX KML I open it up and tag it Hydro_Polygons_Generic_Lake_Perennial. I also set the elevation in FSX KML to 1054 meters. I get a lake that starts at this location and continues to widen across the global to west. Doesn't make any sense but than I again I don't know what I'm doing. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Doesn't sound as though your polygon closes onto it's self? Plus GE and the KML appears to have changed since the time FSX KML was written?

You might attach the KML file to a post so someone can look at it.

Any polygon should have an ending vertice (point) that is at the same location as the starting vertice. While GE may show it as circular (for example), in FSX it's open sided. Go back to GE and edit or redraw making sure that your last click is at the same point as the first click. Or you can manually edit the KML to accomplish the same thing.

Ah, that feels better....:)

The first longitude vertice was zero for starts! Thanks you all.

A known problem if you are using the latest Google Earth to create or edit your KML files for FSX KML. Simply delete the first vertice (0 latitude OR longitude) as well as the last vertice (both zero lat/long) and your polygon will be correctly shaped.

If the "shape" tab of your polygon entry shows something like a line or a very narrow triangle projecting to infinity then your polygon is suffering from the new bug introduced by Google Earth's new KML storage format.
