• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

Creating Approach Procedures

I have two questions:

1. Is it possible to create approach procedures in FSX for a runway for which you have created an ILS?

2. Whenever I have added or modified an ILS, after compiling, I copy both the *.XML file and the *.BGL file into the FSX\addon scenery\scenery folder. When I am done with that I close FSX Planner and it always asks me if I want to save the file. I always say No because I have copied both compiled files into the proper folder. But, when I went back the other day to look at approaches for that xml file, there were none. I am confused, here; the ILS change I made works. What happened to the approaches that were associated with that airport originally. I see them in FSX, but no longer do I see them in the XML file.

Any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated. I would like to learn how to create approach procedures for the ILS' I add to FSX.

Thank you,

Tim

Yes it is. There is a lot involved however. But as long as you have or can create the necessary information then it is possible.

You do not need to copy the xml file into the FSX addon folder, only the bgl file.

I would suggest saving the xml file to a location in your documents folder. Then open it from that location again when you want to work on your airport some more. Moving the xml file and then not saving it may be causing the lost data.

Hi Russell,

First, I want to thank you for taking the time to reply to my question. After my original post, I kind of figured out that I really didn't need the XML file in the Addon Scenery folder. I experimented by removing it and starting FSX. Everything worked without it.

I wanted to access the original approach data in the XML file so I could study it and figure out how to add an approach to a runway that had none.

I used to use AFCAD in FS9 and, while this program is similar, it works differently. I really like FSX Planner! I have always been partial to utility programs that allow me to do more with Flight Simulator than just fly it.

Thanks again, Russell.

No problem Tim. I'm glad that FSX Planner is able to help you improve your FSX experience!
