• Which the release of FS2020 we see an explosition of activity on the forun and of course we are very happy to see this. But having all questions about FS2020 in one forum becomes a bit messy. So therefore we would like to ask you all to use the following guidelines when posting your questions:

    • Tag FS2020 specific questions with the MSFS2020 tag.
    • Questions about making 3D assets can be posted in the 3D asset design forum. Either post them in the subforum of the modelling tool you use or in the general forum if they are general.
    • Questions about aircraft design can be posted in the Aircraft design forum
    • Questions about airport design can be posted in the FS2020 airport design forum. Once airport development tools have been updated for FS2020 you can post tool speciifc questions in the subforums of those tools as well of course.
    • Questions about terrain design can be posted in the FS2020 terrain design forum.
    • Questions about SimConnect can be posted in the SimConnect forum.

Any other question that is not specific to an aspect of development or tool can be posted in the General chat forum.

By following these guidelines we make sure that the forums remain easy to read for everybody and also that the right people can find your post to answer it.

creating edge lighting

I have a dirt strip with five different runways. How can I create a single line of edge lighting down the center of the runway. The problem I am having is that when I create one strip of lights it disappears in FSX Planner when I start a new string of lights along the next dirt runway. I guess what I am asking is how do I create multiple edge lighting strips that are not connected to each other. Thanks in advance.

In the properties for the runway it is possible to select center lighting - is that what you are trying to do?

Yes. A strip of lights down the center of the runway. Do I do this for each runway since some of them intersect each other.

Also, I still would like to request how one could make separate strips of edge lighting. I know I'm missing something in the manual. I guess I could make one strip of lights. Save the airstrip. Go back add another one. And so on.

I don't use FSX Planner but you should be able to select a runway and then in the property grid choose whether or not to display a center line. You have to do this for each runway.

Alternatively I suppose you could use Apron Edge Lights but they would not be used on the center of a runway. I can't say why a set of apron edge lights would disappear in FSX Planner.

However dirt strips would never have marking lights as far as I know so I would ask why you want them?

No problem. In FSX I fly a piper cub. Most of it at night in real time/weather in New Mexico with no radio. These dirt strips are hard to find even during the day due to the textures and so forth in FSX. I find the edge lighting can't be seen until you are right on it and since you can actually see these strips in reality at night I wanted to add just a little visual aid. A single dirt or grass stip is no problem adding a seires of small blue lights spaced 200 feet apart using FSX Planner. I'm having difficulty adding multiple strips of lights for intersecting dirt or grass runways. These private strips are usually on a ranch, farm, or publc strips maintained by the government.

Culpeper: scruffyduck suggested the option of centerline lighting, open the properties for your runways and add the lighting. If your program won't do it, you might try to download ADE from scruffyduck's website, because it will surely do it for you, plus a lot more, including taxiway centerline and edge lighting. :D John
